For how small it is...packs a punch.

For how small it is...packs a punch.
I honestly thought it would be bigger I did look at all the pictures....but brain to picture ratio for some reason still thought it was bigger. But that doesn't matter with this thing, packs a LOUD punch for the sound and not bad sound either, I have other radios, and they are well lets say trash, this is not crisp clear sound, and really good tuning it doesn't drift like others I have do right out of the box. What i REALLY love...WHICH NO PICTURES SHOWED....was the BATTERY COMPARTMENT....what the battery looked like how it was put in connected. I knew it was a 3.7v as the stickers showed so that means it was an 18650 which was great I have tons of those. 2000mAh is good, but i knew i could do better, 3000-3600mAh is what I wanted to shoot for, least more time on the radio, and longer lasting flash light. SO I opened up with the REALLY small screws...IT IS REPLACEABLE!!!!!! SO I TOOK A PICTURE!! They even corded it! and PLUGGED IT! Because this makes it SO Much Easier to spot weld then solder the to the tabs a new battery. (If you do do this do not break the battery control circuit, or battery management system...BMS that is attached to the battery you need this if one isn't in the 18650 you have already to replace it with) I haven't done this yet, BUT I know it is possible now which makes me extreeeeeeeeeeemly happy that I know this is possible. Do i wish it was just a spring battery compartment yeah...but on how small it is...thing had to be compromised and such. Thank god it wasn't soldered to the board! But they made it is one CAN replace the battery, with a little effort....Man oh Man do I love this! For any one thinking about it, BUY THIS! You will not regret it!

      Bought this becaEmergencies.

season has arrived, and there have been half a dozen so far this year. Last year we smashed the record for tornadoes, and my last radio stopped working. It was over 20 years old.

This is smaller than my last one, but picks up more NOAA stations, so I'm happy about that. The sound isn't stereo quality, but what do you expect with such a tiny radio? I don't think I will use it to charge anything as I have a few portable chargers for that purpose. But at least I have that option.

The only thing that would really make this better, is if it also ran on back-up batteries. Other than that, this is a nice addition to have in our emergency kit.

      I love it.

My last weather radio was about two decades old, so it was time to replace it and when i saw this one on sale on Black Friday, i decided to order it for myself.

I haven't needed it yet, but I did test it out a few times to be sure it will work when i need it and I'm very pleased.

Unlike my previous weather radio, this one is a full AM/FM radio and it picks up several local music stations just as well as it picks up the weather band. Even without the antenna raised, it gets pretty good reception indoors, and the reception is even better near a window or with the antenna raised. It's not super high-fidelity or anything, but you can definitely hear everything that's being broadcast without any kind of serious distortions beyond the little static that all manual radios have.

It seems to charge very well just from the light of my desk-side lamp and I tested the crank-charge function right out of the box. Just a few seconds of cranking gave me enough power to listen to the radio for several minutes (it probably would have continued to work for longer, but by then I was satisfied and sick of listening to the automated voice), and it doesn't take too much force to crank it up, so it shouldn't be too difficult even for people with arthritis in the hands like i have. The USB ports seem to be working well, too, so plenty of ways to keep it charged.

The crank and antenna both collapse when not in use to avoid accidental damage and snagging on things if you're shuffling around with it in the dark.

The flashlight isn't the brightest you'll ever seen, but it's strong enough to make it easy to find your way in the dark, and the button to turn on the flashlight is very easy to find by touch.

It's not overly heavy but is definitely very solidly-built and seems very sturdy overall. I don't have any complaints and I'm pretty sure this will still be serving me well a decade or two from now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice little radio-flashlight for emergency use
Reviewed in Canada on November 5, 2018
      Color: YellowVerified Purchase
I saw lots of positive reviews about this little emergency radio-flashlight device, and I must say that it surpassed my expectations. Now, the little speaker is not going to knock your socks off with quality, but for what this is, the speaker is more than adequate with very clear and unmuffled sound, not tinny sounding as I expected to be. It would be quite acceptable for anyone who likes to listen to radio broadcasts, and who doesn't demand audiophile quality sound. It really is quite good considering the small size of the whole device.

It is smaller than I thought, but that's a plus if you plan to take it camping or anywhere really. It would fit neatly into a backpack and weighs almost nothing. The flashlight is not super powerful, but it too is more than adequate if you find yourself in a dark garage or other place and drop your keys, or need to go to the bathroom at night when camping without waking everyone else up with a really bright light, or even for just walking around. It will light your way just fine.

I think that for $26 it was a great deal. I sure could have used it a few weeks back when we were hit by a tornado here in Ottawa and the power was out for a long time. It would have been nice to have had this just for the radio feature to know what was going on in the city.

I can't really vouch for the sturdiness of the device, as it is small and made of plastic and I don't feel like wasting money just to throw it around to see how well it holds up, but it seems that with careful use it would last just fine.

I have no idea how long it would take to charge it even with a strong sun, but I plan to keep it charged up with the (included) micro usb cable and only use the solar charger feature in an emergency. Update: I fully charged it with the usb cable and then set it in my window, which seems to keep it fully charged with the solar panel, even when using it for a while listening to the radio, and it keeps fully charged, even though the sun has been clouded over the past couple of days. It seems as if just bright daylight, even without much sun, will let the solar panel keep it fully charged. Excellent performance so far. I don't know how long it would take to fully charge with just the solar panel, but it seems fairly efficient so far.

All in all, a good deal on a nice piece of kit for emergencies, camping or hiking.
