I have looked for a way to cancel my sub for LMI, but have not found one.
And since I am not listed with any recurring fees under subscription I assumed it would be a case of “If you want to continue you have to pay up.” But NO.

So according to my subscription and account settings I have no subscription and no registered payment method they still charge me via Paypal!

I am pretty steamed right now. This is not even borderline unprofessional. This is so far across the line that I don’t even have words to describe it.

If I have a subscription it should be listed so that I can cancel it. End of story.
Off to PayPal to revert the transaction…

I have now removed Logmein from my authorized list (had I known there was such a thing I would have done it a long time ago, so a tip here)
I have submitted a ticket both to PayPal and LogMeIn.
Will be interesting to see the outcome.

The subscription had not even expired…

I don’t think you have enough tabs open on that window. Open a few more and all the tabs will collapse onto themselves under their own weight and form a black hole.

Definitely shady that they don’t show your renewal price by the time you renew. I can confirm it doesn’t show mine either, and it renews in Aug.

They seem to think they are above the law at the moment… first over doubling their prices and now this! They are a law unto themselves!

2 Spice ups

Above what law?

Common business practice is to list any active subscriptions under “my subscriptions”. With cost to renew and when it will happen. And also an “unsubscribe” button.

But if they have broken any laws I can’t say.

They don’t seem too bothered by it.

Sounds like Simon Gibbs has experienced the same thing.
And had it been a business subscription I wouldn’t really be that annoyed. But it was my personal account.
That I haven’t even used for a year…

We’ll see

If you logon to your papal account >settings then on bottom right side click on Preapproved payments, will take you to another page. find the LogMeIn.Inc merchant and click on it - then at the “Status” line you can revoke their right to auto charge you.

Yes, I did do that. Only too late.
Still a very useful tip for the thread. A much simpler way to do it than I used. Thank you Nick

Lol Logmein is really being bombarded on twitter.
Looks like I’m far from the only one.

After contacting Logmein about the issue on Twitter they resolved the matter quickly and transferred the funds back to me promptly.
So I will have to applaud their customer service. I do not think these are pleasant days for the ones working support. They also mentioned that they had heard the same before and they would look into changing the subscriptions page to include options to unsubscribe.
I would think that would be cheaper both in manpower and reputation to avoid such issues altogether.

That said I was pointed to the readme that said that logmein subscriptions would be renewed using the credit card on file. But this was a bit odd, since I had no credit card on file. And PayPal is not listed under payment options as on file either.

I would say Logmein need to go over the functionality of their website and also the legal texts like the readme.

Anyway, all is usually good that ends well.

Happen to me 2 years ago, and that’s why I left them without looking back. No matter what I did not, they just refused to credit my fund backs, saying it is what I agreed to when I signed up. In the end I have to call my bank to reject the credit card transaction citing its a fraud transaction and get a new card.

Seem like you luck out with so many complaints about them this few days, they have to scavenge whatever rep they have left.

They got me like that last year. I called them and they “reduced” it to $499. This year, I logged in and changed the expiration date and the security code on the credit card. That should keep it from renewing until I can figure out where to go next…

D

Changing the Exp Date and/or CVV…

That will not stop a CC transaction from going through.

It will cause some road blocks and may help, but if they have had a pattern of auto renewing, they will present it and most likely the card issuer will take the charge as being a valid subscription of yours.

You may get a security call… You may not…

I’m speaking from personal experience. I have seen different results from "Amx " vs "Chse " and a few others.

You need to let your Issuer know what’s up. They will note it in their security. That’s NOT a guarantee you won’t be hit for it again, but it will be a track record that you said “NO, It’s NOT ok to bill me!”.

Best thing I’ve found is to have the card issuer re-issue a new card with a NEW NUMBER on it. …Not just the CVV!!

I trusted LogMeIn for years. No more. Just found out the auto-renewed me twice and we never picked up on it because of the other vendors that also bill to that card. The numbers were not out align with other ticket sizes.

…Until the accountant found it

Well over $1000 of billing going through auto renewal on a card that was used to buy LMI Central 1 time a couple years ago. I never authorized them to even HOLD my card data, nor did I authorize any renewals.

Now the fight begins.

fyi… I do believe in licenses at fair and reasonable prices. I am one of the original purchases of LogMeIn Ignition for the iPhone. They made me rebuy Ignition for my Tablet, which was also iOS, even though I was no longer using my iOS version on my phone. I had moved to an Android Phone. I bought the license for Droid. Then I tried Central at roll out. When it came up for renewal, I paid the $299 for the whopping 10 computers that I wanted to see. It failed to deliver $300 of value, so this should have been a dead issue. When the books didn’t balance, we found they had been auto billing a card they were never supposed to be using. Unfortunately, the chargeback window is 180 days. A lawsuit may be the only path. If not, a barrage of social media may be a viable alternative.

My background… 12 years in the POS Industry, and 21 years in Merchant Services (Credit Card Processing on the Acquires side)

You would think I would have seen this developing. It never occurred to me, because I don’t ever authorize recurring billing on that card, only single purchases through Vendors I trust. . I trusted LogMeIn. Clearly, I know now, I shouldn’t have.

I also got ripped of by LMI.

Auto renewal clause hidden on page 12 of 17 fine print.

My credit card details had changed, but after quite a few attempts LMI managed to hack it and change me a subscription that had increased over 300%.

They made no attempt to contact re my credit card details having changed. Just went straight to hacking mode to get it.

LMI are so proud they can hack credit cards that they even stated it in a letter to my bank as well as to me.

LMI refuses refunds on cancellation so if you cancel you are actually paying a further 12 months subscription…

LMI is nothing more than a company pushing adware software knowing full well they are about to scam you big time.

DO NOT USE LOGMEIN!!!

… and any other subscription-based product for that matter

Not sure on everyone else’s view, however the alternatives are not great and logmein is still a great product albeit the price has increased but you do get a lot for your money with it.

Please check out Splashtop Remote Support Basic and Plus packs. It’s priced at over 50% discount to LMI, yet has all the features and better performance (Splashtop can even stream 3D games :)). The tens of thousands of LMI users who had switched to Splashtop have expressed loving Splashtop…

As an example, below is an email I received yesterday:

"

Hello Splashtop,

I thought I would take a moment to say thank you!

Normally people only make contact when there are problems but today I wanted to do it differently. I use Splashtop a lot for supporting my clients, it’s a very nice convenience to be able to remote in to a system to do something or fix something. I came from using LogMeIn which was a decent remote access solution but their prices just skyrocketed year after year. I’m all for paying a fair price but what they wanted was truly way overpriced. I found Splashtop from reading messages boards about people discussing the same frustration I had with LogMeIn. I gave Splashtop a try and liked it, but what really sold me was the fair price you guys were charging for it. Today I noticed something good, which is what provoked me wanting to email you guys. In the client Splashtop Business application, when clicking the “gear” settings for a remote computer, I now see some additional things which are very nice. It’s show the last time the system was online, the last session data time, and reboot option. These are all things I used (found valuable) from LogMeIn and I had actually submitted some suggestion on your website about these very things. So let me say THANK YOU for implementing these little features/items.

Keep up the great work!

Peter Norgaard"
