Meta’s Oakley smart glasses are for athletes and cost ‘around $360,’ Prada glasses also coming

Meta is expanding its smart glasses lineup not with the futuristic “Orion” just yet, but with Oakley joining Ray-Ban later this week with new glasses.

Announced on Instagram and other platforms, Meta is partnering with Oakley to launch a new product later this week. “Oakley Meta” will presumably offer a pair of glasses similar to the popular Ray-Ban Meta glasses that have been on sale for almost two years now, with an ever-growing list of capabilities.

CNBC reports that these new glasses will be focused “on athletes.” The report claims that Meta is “targeting active consumers after seeing several owners of its Ray-Ban glasses use the device to record themselves playing tennis, skiing and doing other activities.” The report claims that these new glasses would cost “around $360” to accommodate for better weather-proofing.

Overall tech in the Oakley Meta glasses is said to be similar to Ray-Ban models.

Meta will launch these new Oakley glasses later this week on June 20.

Beyond that, Meta’s partnership with EssilorLuxottica will apparently also soon leverage the Prada brand, with another pair of fashion-forward glasses in the works. However, it’s unclear when these will actually debut.
