Samsung prepares One UI 8 release with Good Lock updates, new homescreen customization [Gallery]

Ahead of the anticipated release of its One UI 8 update, Samsung has just issued a ton of new Good Lock updates, including some major changes for “Home Up.”

Samsung launched One UI 8 on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 (which are shipping to customers now), but we’re still waiting on the update’s wider release on the Galaxy S25 series and so many other devices. There’s no word on when that will happen, but things are certainly lining up.

This week, Samsung launched new Good Lock updates to get ready for One UI 8. Updated modules include QuickStar, MultiStar, NavStar, and Home Up.

Those modules have all been updated with support for One UI 8, and each with a handful of key changes. These include:

  • QuickStar: Customization for Quick Settings, no changes in One UI 8
  • MultiStar: Enhanced multiwindow options, added “Launcher Widget” for Galaxy Z Flip 7, more
  • NavStar: Customizable navigation bar, no changes in One UI 8
  • Home Up: Improved homescreen customization options, major updates in One UI 8

The folks over at SamMobile captured the changelogs for each update.

The biggest update is to Home Up, a module focused on giving the user greater control over the stock One UI homescreen. SammyGuru was able to break down the changes found in One UI 8, where Samsung has brought many of the core options from Home Up to the actual homescreen, rather than forcing the user over to the app itself to make changes. Users can now also further tune animations, as well as fully customize blur. The “DIY Home” feature also now allows for even finer controls.

For homescreen customization, the Home Up updates found in One UI 8 mark a major upgrade, though users still have to jump through a couple of hoops to access them. These changes are also available solely in One UI 8, so you can’t use them if your Galaxy device is still running One UI 7.

As for when Samsung’s One UI 8 update goes wide, we still don’t have a date, though these updates and general Fold 7/Flip 7 availability suggest that we don’t have much longer to wait.
