Gemini has made a nice quality-of-life update for Audio Overviews on Android and iOS by introducing a native, inline player.

Previously, tapping on a generated Audio Overview opened the file in your browser with a long URL. You could listen in that Chrome tab or download (and use the Files app) for an unwieldy experience. Now, the Android and iOS app, like gemini.google.com, uses a native player.

It features the name of the podcast with a “Gemini Audio Overview” badge underneath. There’s a timeline and scrubber, while rewind and skip 10 seconds flanks the play/pause button. Playback speed is at the left: .5, .75, 1, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, and 2x. Finally, the download button is at the right. This controls interface is accented blue.
The system media player notification (from the Google app) is badged with the Gemini icon and lets you quickly rewind/skip.
This native Audio Overviews player is rolled out with version 16.27 (stable) of the Google app on Android, and today’s iOS update: “Gemini now allows in-app playback of your created podcasts.”
