Google Keep rolling out Material 3 Expressive redesign

Following the updated widget in April and changes to the FAB earlier this year, Google Keep for Android is rolling out a Material 3 Expressive redesign.

It starts with the new M3 Expressive search app bar component that features a thicker field flanked by an external hamburger button and profile switcher for more visual separation. The “Google Keep” animation in the bar still exists on initial app load before it switches to “Search Keep” and the single/multi-column picker at the right.

This is the main change to the homepage, though the FAB (floating action button) menu has been tweaked so the icons appear first.

The other Material 3 Expressive change is within notes. All buttons on this page are now placed in containers. The pin, reminder, and archive button at the top-right corner are placed in rounded squares. The bottom row buttons for the ‘plus,’ color/background, and text formatting are circular, while the overflow is a pill. That menu sees Google move the “Edited” date/time moved from the bottom, to that three-dot menu.
