Instagram might be about to cross off one of the most requested features from users’ wish lists: The company has confirmed it’s testing a native repost button for the main Feed. Here’s how it might work.
Not the first time, but maybe the last?

If you’ve got a good memory, you might recall that Instagram first started experimenting with reposts back in 2022. Now, some users are once again spotting the feature live in their accounts.

According to early reports and screenshots (which Meta has confirmed to TechCrunch that are the real thing), you’ll be able to repost both your own content and posts from other users.
Until now, the only official way to share someone else’s post was by adding it to your Story. To get around this, many users have resorted to third-party apps or just plain screenshots.
And while an official repost option wouldn’t end copypasta and plagiarism once and for all, a button to streamline that process could ideally help original creators get proper credit, boosting reach and discoverability along the way.
Instagram brings out the big guns to fend off the competition
Given how central the repost button has become on other platforms (and with Meta now facing real competition pressure) it’s not a huge surprise Instagram is finally moving in this direction.
The platform has also recently confirmed it’s working on an Instagram-only app, and will soon let users reorganize their feeds beyond the traditional chronological view.
Still, as with any Instagram tests, there’s no timeline (yet) for a full rollout. But this time, it’s starting to feel like the real thing.
