- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2023Color: White, Alexa CompatibleSize: 1 PackVerified PurchaseOnce upon a time, I was just an ordinary person with a boring old light switch. But then, I discovered the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch HS220 and my life changed forever. This switch is truly a game-changer and I can confidently give it a 5 out of 5-star rating.
First off, let's talk about the installation process. I was a bit nervous about this at first, as I'm not exactly a handy person. But much to my surprise, the installation was a breeze. All you need is a neutral wire, which my house had, and you're good to go. No hub required, no complicated wiring diagrams, just a simple and straightforward process.
Once I got the switch installed, it was time to put it to the test. And let me tell you, this thing is incredible. The Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch HS220 allows you to control your lights with your voice, through Alexa or Google Home, or through the Kasa app on your phone. It's so easy to use and the dimming feature is truly a game-changer.
But the real standout feature for me is the scheduling option. You can set your lights to turn on and off at certain times, which is incredibly useful for when you're away from home. It gives you peace of mind knowing that your home appears occupied, even when you're not there. Plus, it's just fun to mess with your friends by having your lights turn on and off at random times.
I have to say, the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch HS220 has truly revolutionized the way I use my lights at home. I love that I can control the brightness and color temperature of my lights with just a few taps on my phone, or by asking Alexa to do it for me. It's also really handy when I'm settling in to watch a movie or read a book, as I can dim the lights to the perfect level of brightness without even getting up from my seat.
But what really sets this switch apart is the fact that it's so easy to use. Even my technologically challenged grandparents were able to figure out how to use it with no problem. And if they can do it, anyone can! The app is really intuitive and user-friendly, and the instructions that come with the switch are clear and easy to follow.
Another great thing about the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch HS220 is that it's incredibly reliable. I've never had any issues with it disconnecting from my Wi-Fi or failing to respond to voice commands. And on the rare occasion when I did have a question or problem, the customer service team at Kasa was quick to respond and really helpful.
One of my favorite features of the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch HS220 is the ability to create scenes. With scenes, you can set up multiple switches to control different lights at the same time. For example, I have a scene called "Movie Night" where I dim the lights in the living room, turn off the overhead lights, and turn on my table lamps to create the perfect atmosphere for watching a movie. It's so convenient to be able to control multiple lights with just one command!
I also appreciate the safety features of this switch. It's UL certified, which means it meets rigorous safety standards, and it has a built-in safety shut-off feature that prevents the switch from overheating. This gives me peace of mind knowing that I don't have to worry about any safety issues.
Finally, I have to mention how great the Kasa app is. It's so easy to use and has a ton of features that allow you to customize your smart home experience. You can set schedules, create scenes, and even monitor your energy usage to see how much money you're saving on your electricity bill.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch HS220 to anyone looking to upgrade their home. It's easy to install, fun to use, and adds a touch of convenience to your daily life. Plus, it's just plain cool to be able to control your lights with your voice. So go ahead and buy it, you won't regret it!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2025Color: White, Alexa CompatibleSize: 3 PackVerified PurchaseI can’t overstate how much I love the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switches (HS220P3). These things are life changers. When we moved into our new home, one of the first things I did was order a pack of these. Our previous house had them installed, and I knew I couldn't live without them.
It might sound dramatic, but once you experience the convenience of smart dimmer switches—especially paired with Alexa—you’ll never want to go back to regular wall switches. Whether I’m watching a movie and want to dim the lights without moving a muscle, or setting the mood for a cozy dinner with one voice command, these switches make it effortless.
The dimming is smooth, setup is straightforward, and the Kasa app gives you total control (even when you’re away from home). It’s the kind of upgrade that quietly elevates everyday life—you don’t realize how much it improves things until you’ve used it.
If you're building a smart home or even just looking to make your evenings a little more magical and convenient, start here. Highly, highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2023Color: White, Alexa CompatibleSize: 3 PackVerified PurchaseI am recently new to kasa wifi products and am loving it! it all started because I installed white lights and colored lights on my Christmas tree and wanted to control them individually, sometimes just the white, sometimes just the colors, sometimes both so I started looking for a power strip that could do it. i found a 6 way power strip that had a separate push button switch for each of the 6 outlets and as a bonus, with the downloaded software I could control it from anywhere! And I mean anywhere!! Not just within my wifi network!! I wasn't sure what I was getting into but I bought it. It works great. I love that I can set a timer to turn them on and off. ( No "HEY GOOGLE" or ALEXA" for this kid) the app works great! I have since found uses for all of the spaces on the strip for other lights and and even to turn off the aquarium water filter while I feed so it doesn't suck in the food. Then I found I could get individual light bulbs that you can adjust colors and dim! I can schedule the lights to turn on or off at a certain time, even sunrise and sunset, or up to an hour before or after any of those. So now my living room lights come on by them selves 20 minutes before sunset and I turn them off my self when after I go to bed so I can see well down the stairs before turning them off. And when I go to bed, my headboard light is on and waiting for me, which when I'm ready to go to sleep, I don't have to reach up and turn the switch, I just pull up the app and turn it off. Oh! Also, the power strip also tells you power usage from each outlet!!! I installed a switch to control my front outside house lights so now they turn on automagically 30 minutes after sunset and turn off 20 minutes before sunrise and they can still be turned on or off manually. Then plug in outlets, I have two of them now and they do great!! Now just waiting for the ceiling fan and dimmer switches which are now supposed to come out after January!! When those finally become available, I'll be able to control the lights and my ceiling fans from my phone while I watch a movie or whatever!!
Sorry this is so long, I'm so excited about these things. Now I have installed these three dimmable switches in my great room to control 3 groups of lights. Now when we want to watch a movie, we don't have to turn off the lights and maybe stumble over things to get to the seats, or live with the lights being on. Now I can get to my seat, snacks in hand, then sit down and turn the lights on or off or dim any of the three groups from the app (though you can still turn them off and on from the switch if you were to insist on being a knuckle dragging neanderthal).
Now a few tips, these things seem pretty large but if you compare, the depth is really about the same.
Now when you set them up, power up one item at a time, set it up, then do the next as each one has its own id number. as others have said, if you were to install all 3 switches and they were all powered at the same time, you'd likely have issues. For the switches, make sure you have a neutral (usually white) wire available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smooth Install, easy pairing. Awesome product for the price!
Color: White, Alexa CompatibleSize: 1 PackVerified PurchaseThis is another great product from TP-Link. I am using their Smart WiFi Plug HS105 for the block heater with zero issues for three seasons already.
HS220 comes with everything you need for installation but you absolutely need to check whether you have Neutral wire provided by your builder. If you don't adding it is pretty much impossible without reaping walls off. Seriously. I know a guy who sued his builder for failing to provide Neutral wire for lighting.
First I would suggest to determine which wire is LINE and which is LOAD in your old light switch. I used multimeter for this purpose - you will always have 120ish volts between Line and Ground when the switch is OFF and nothing between LOAD and ground. Use Electric box as ground when you measure.
I did have two LINE wires connected to the old mechanical switch - the second LINE was wired elsewhere and HS220 doesn't have any additional connectors for the second LINE. This is not an issue whatsoever - using pliers carefully make a half-loop for both LINE wires you have, completely unscrew the bolt (black in my case) on HS220 and remove small metal push plate. Lay both LINE wires the way so they wrap around the screw hole, put metal push plate back and tighten the black screw. Provided black screw is more than sufficient to tighten two 14G overlapped copper wires.
Think strategically about all the wires you have in electric box since HS220 requires three times the space than you old switch. Locate all the wires in the box the way to allow enough space for the HS220 when you install it. Carefully push it in place applying pressure to the top and bottom flanges only (with Face Plate off, of course). Do NOT apply any pressure to the buttons while installing the switch.
Do not panic if you don't get lights turning on fast enough with physical button or through the app. This is a well known issue which made people complain since December, 2020. This only happens because of double-tap functionality. Switch is making a delay checking whether single- or double-tap is used. Go to the TP-Link community website and download beta-firmware which works way better. Upgraded firmware from my PC and got ALMOST instantaneous switch response. The key word is almost since it doesn't look like you can get the same on/off performance from this switch as you do from a simple physical switch.
Used the switch with cheap Sylvania 60W 2700K LEDs just for test. Will definitely go for brighter bulbs later.
The only thing I REALLY don't like about this switch is annoying squeaking noise when on/off button is pressed. Makes entire unit feel really cheap. As per TP-link response this is working as intended and caused by the spring.
UPDATE #1: Got two more switches and installed them the next day in two more rooms. Everything went smooth except of one switch with a somewhat crooked button which sticks and moves whenever the main button is pressed. There is definitely room for improvement in QC. Both switches are Hardware Version 3 and so far don't have any squeak.
UPDATE #2: If you get dimmer switch wired on the same line as exhaust fan (I realized that one of my switches feeds exhaust fan in the nearby bathroom) you will get light blinking every time when the fan is turned off. Seems like this is the way all dimmer switches work. There is a solution suggested online involving the use of MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor) 270V (175VAC/225VDC) 6500A Surge Through Hole 20mm Disc. Need to try it and see if it works.
UPDATE #3: Bought MOV through "Jameco Electronics" online. Just Google their web site. Ended up getting MOV-20D271K-ND equivalent. Installed it on the bathroom fan switch and IT WORKED!!! Now I do not have any more flickering caused by line noise or RF noise, generated by the switch connected to the induction motor opening (turning off). When bathroom fan wired on the same line with one of my HS220 is turned off I have zero flickering. Highly recommend this solution to those who are interested in fixing this annoyance.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Pain no Gain
Color: White, Matter CompatibleSize: 3 PackVerified PurchaseI have had a smart home with 50+ devices for about a decade, since Apple first brought out its HomeKit smart home system. I have a lot of experience with the benefits and also the many hassles of smart home devices.
Firstly let me comment on the physical product itself, and the company behind it. Great design. Great quality. Committed brand, with a good track record I think you can trust. Easy to physically install if you are comfortable with connecting wires, and can turn off a circuit breaker. You MUST have white "neutral" wires, which typically any electrical system done since the 1980's will have. Instructions are straight forward. You might discover some of your existing switches are not wired in typical ways. If this is the case and you don't fully understand it, get an electrician. I think most people will be okay.
BUT … from an all around software setup perspective, this is by far the most aggravating installation experience I ever had - until it wasn't. This is the FIRST Matter protocol device I have installed in my Apple Home. I DO have the required Matter/Thread routers that are needed. In this case of an Apple Home, several Apple TVs and HomePods. If you use Google Home, or Alexa, or other you MUST also have in your home a “Matter Hub” capable product from Google or Alexa respectively.
I spent almost a full time week, googling, trying various things, getting frustrated, and I would rate myself a 9/10 on expertise in this area. Until I learned the best trick. You HAVE to FULLY commit if you want to move to the Matter, protocol and I think you SHOULD. Even if you do at first get it working without this drastic step, I think you are just pushing hidden problems into the future. Start FRESH.
All those smart home rules, profiles, pairings, etc you have built over the years - you should DELETE THEM ALL, and FACTORY RESET ALL your smart home devices. Delete your ENTIRE home profile. Start over completely. Drastic yes. But just like it is much easier to build a quality new home from scratch, rather than patchy renovations to an existing home, the same applies to a smart home when moving to a very different technology, in this case “Matter”.
If you want to get into the Matter ecosystem, and I think any serious smart home enthusiast SHOULD, you have to understand that you are much more on your own right now than by sticking with a current proprietary ecosystem. The attempt to make Matter work with many different platforms, means the ability for product manufacturers, and Ecosystems - like Apple, Google, or Alexa support, to assist you is very limited, even when they want to.
One MORE step. Do the same with your router. FACTORY RESET. It also plays a core essential role in the reliability of your smart home. If you have a cheap router you should really consider something higher end.
When I took the deep dive, and started from scratch, I was able to set up all my Matter devices with ease. Another suggestion - just because matter claims to be able to support multiple home ecosystems out of the box, DON’T do that. You are asking for trouble, Pick 1 like HomeKit as I did, or Google Home, or Alexa, or SmartThings, or other platforms, and do EVERYTHING on that ONE platform. Also install the manufacturer specific apps for direct control of your devices, outside of any ecosystem. Reduce complexity, don’t embrace it. Yes, Matter is still quite frustrating, but most of the issues should be solvable through updated ecosystem software and product firmware. I still believe it will become THE standard, likely the ONLY standard in the future. So unless you need features not yet supported by Matter, I think Matter devices are worth the initial pain, to future proof your investment.
Hope that helps !

5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good
Color: White, Alexa CompatibleSize: 3 PackVerified PurchaseInstalled today. So far so good on day 1. I had no prior experience with electrical work. Managed to do it by myself with a friend answering my questions on the phone. Not all lights support dimming so make sure your light is compatible with a dimming switch.
