- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2025Edition: LongVerified PurchaseIt's chonky for a remote but but it does what it's supposed to do. I wish they would just make a thin USB rechargeable version that would solve a lot of the battery problems people are having issues with, but on AAA lithium batteries I've been running for almost 6 months ongoing with no issues. Lithium batteries have a flatter voltage curve but if you try to use Nimh rechargeable batteries you're going to have issues.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2023Edition: LongVerified PurchaseI had posted a question saying my remote did not automatically work when I got it - turns out it did. The IR sensor on the Xbox One is tiny. Its very easy for something nearby to block the view. We knew this was an IR remote from the other reviews and were pointing the remote at it, but underestimated the size of the sensor.
Also, the cover was not intuitive to open, and I see others had the same issue. The entire back panel slides up. There is a slight indentation halfway up the back which makes you naturally think you are moving just one piece, but you need to slide the whole thing up. Putting it back on is just done in reverse but ours need some work to get it fully flush again.
Over, the remote works great, but it seems like 90% of the questions are about these two issues. 8Bit's customer service got back to me ASAP with another option and Amazon support offered a refund. For anyone else having an issue, 8Bit (thinking I was pointing it correctly at the IR sensor) said to:
*Take the batteries out, press a few buttons on the Medea Remote (press them all if you like).
* Then leave it there for about 2 minutes.
* Place the batteries in and test the remote again.
Hope that is helpful. I love these devices since we use our Xbox as a server for all of our streaming services and a remote is so much easier that a two handed XBox controller.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2021Edition: LongVerified PurchaseLet me first start off by saying that I'm a huge fan of 8bitdo products. I have several of their controllers and other devices and when I see one of their products that peeks my interest, I buy without hesitation. That being said, anyone interested in this product should definitely pursue the reviews to make sure you understand what you're buying.
As other reviews have also stated, you should first and foremost understand that this is NOT Bluetooth. The product description should have that explicitly stated because I purchased it with the assumption that it would be. Hell, even some of 8bitdo's cheapest devices are Bluetooth so I just thought that this one would be as well naturally. The important point about this is that Bluetooth doesn't require line of sight and IR does. You need to make sure that you have good line of sight to your Xbox and that there's nothing in front of it's IR sensor.
Secondly, this is NOT a programmable remote. In order to control the volume and other functions of your stereo or TV, it uses a protocol through the HDMI connections to send the commands. For the most part, this works great but it can be a bit quirky depending on your device. For example, it will turn on my Xbox, stereo and TV at the same time, but for whatever reason it causes my sound from my Xbox to play through the TV speakers instead of the stereo. I've checked every setting I can find (an I'm no novice to A/V) and can't find the problem. I know one issue with my Samsung TV is that I cannot disable the "TV" input and even if I set it to always use the HDMI audio connection, if my HDMI switch doesn't kick over in time then it switches the audio back to TV speakers. This is definitely a niche problem that many people won't have but it's an example of a quirk that can be encountered when relying on the HDMI connection instead of having the remote programmed for your equipment. Having said all of that, I far prefer using the HDMI connection instead of IR, it just takes some patience to work out some of the weird issues that may occur with your equipment. This occurs more frequently with mixed brands of equipment.
I've read some reviews here as well in which people have had issues getting the back off of the remote. This is one of the only things that is actually helpful in the instruction pamphlet. The entire back slides up to access the battery compartment. I really like this design though because it makes the build feel much more solid and has a clean look to it.
If you understand these small issues (the biggest being IR not Bluetooth) and they do not present any issue for you, rest assured that it's a well built product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good media remote (the smaller version will probably suffice)
Edition: LongVerified PurchaseGiven this is the closest to an official remote there currently is (and will be), it does everything you'd expect.
The number buttons seem a bit redundant - hence suggesting the smaller version will suffice, but if you like using a remote to watch YouTube etc, then this is what you're after.
The "line of sight" IR sensor (hidden in the Series X pairing button) is quite powerful and you can get away with not needing to directly aim straight at it.
Will agree with others: the 'lights up when touched' feature is great in a dark room, but it does get through batteries quite quickly.
Other than that, a tactile & well made remote.
