If you are in the market for a selfie stick with tripod base, this one, by elago, is an excellent choice.
It offers an ultra-light, folding, swivel, telescoping stand that allows you to take photos remotely via Blue Tooth.
The swivel head rotates 360 degrees, with 45 degree detents, allowing portrait or landscape shots and more. The telescoping portion extends to 25”.
TBH, I was impressed with the design and construction. This would make a nice gift for someone.
The only weak point I found was not with the device itself, but compatibility with the unevenness of my phones’ outer case to mate with the flat metallic circle and the adhesive on one side of it.
I took the phones’ outer protective case off and the phones’ internal metallic components were attracted by the magnets, just strongly enough so that I could use it, but it was not nearly as secure as the metallic ring attached directly to the phone would have been.
Not everyone will want to take off their case. A rubber band would be handy. That sort of defeats the magnet concept, haha!
I laid the metallic ring into the upturned, empty phone case and carefully inserted my phone to test it. I didn’t know if the case would accept the ring on the phone back and wondered if it might affect the case, or worse, the phone. I can tell that the case is slightly warped. The raised protective edges are reduced in the area corresponding to where the ring is underneath the phone. The magnets are not drawing the case and phone to it. This was just an experiment to test the fitment, not something that I would recommend others do.
If your phone case is smooth, flat and not made of silicone, then attaching the metallic ring should work well. All good. No worries. Just first clean with the included LCD cleaning wipes to remove any oils. BTW, the magnets in the head are really quite strong and when mated to the metallic circle, won’t budge. Nice!
This barely weighs anything, just 6 oz. and is small and compact, 6.5”x2”x2.5”, perfect for stowing in a purse, backpack or luggage. Comes with a small cloth bag.
The magnetically attached remote pairs effortlessly and works as expected. You will need to first remove a thin plastic barrier to actively link the CR1632 coin battery to the remote.
I like this selfie stick stand and am glad I found it. Its got a cool techie vibe and it’ll get a lot of use. Just know going in that your phone case back has to be flat, smooth and not silicone to work with this selfie stick, as it is designed.
