SW community, clean up old computers, look through inventory for computers low on RAM or disc space. Just a few

I research on a slow day or try out new software on virtual computers.

Slow day does not happen often.

I was prepping for a MS cert test but it has been months since i had that time,

Look at the community here, update my spreadsheets of client contact info and expected data receipt schedules (low priority job), organize and file the overwhelming amount of crap in my inbox… Mostly just the busywork that should get done but doesn’t need to that I usually don’t have time for.

Look online for easier ways to write the SQL scripts I find myself using over and over on a regular basis. I find myself doing this a lot lately as I am trying to get better at my codewriting.

I have a project queue. When I get to this point, I start in on the projects. Have a test server setup specifically for this and I take that time to try out different things.

Where do you work, and are they hiring?

Currently, I am busy testing the remote agent feature of SW 6. When I get tired of that, I’ll switch over to studying for the MCITP. Give the occasional token glance at helpdesk tickets, etc.

Work ON. i.e. upcoming projects, policies, plans.

We have a cot in the hot aisle. Its nice and warm and the fans can make it seem like a gentle ocean breeze with the sound of the surf

SW community, try to learn the nuances of SharePoint by researching online or reading in the books I got, read Google news (which sometimes gets depressing), and after that I do some Microsoft e-learning for the office 2010 products which are very simple but it wastes time and makes it look like I am doing something.

What you mean… what do I do everyday? (j/k)!

Learn, implement, program, script, and automate as many tasks as possible.

Try to get caught up, right now I’m about 2 weeks behind on my work, and the only way I can get caught up when requests slow down from users.

I’m the owner. No such thing as a slow day. Always more I can do.

Slow day? What’s that?

If there is a day where my phone isnt ringing off the hook i’m working on some sort of project or researching a future project. There’s always something new or useful to research.

Beyond that, I’m trying to work on better documentation and cable cleanup. Over the last 3 weeks I have rewired the server rack for more efficiency and faster installs. There’s still a mess of cables on the wall that I have to cleanup and I need to replace a piece of overhead conduit that’s clogged with a cable tray. I have also been working on and off on a few visio documents to diagram out the office and rack.

Other than SpiceWorks and Angry birds?

I’ll mess around writing Java scripts or looking at stored SQL procedures to see if I can make them run any better. I’ll see what the helpdesk folks are up to and see if they have anything I can “help” with. Cleaning up old user accounts is always good for an hour or so. I have a private area so sometimes I’ll read, work related of course! but mostly just try to look busy.
