Hi all, I am the IT Manager for a company in Ireland that has just recently become a multisite organisation, I am looking for the best idiot-proof remote control software I can roll out on our Windows 7 pcs that our users can click on to allow us to remote control their pcs, has anybody had any good or bad experience of any of the top vendors?

An evergreen topic, indeed.

I used Dameware Mini Remote Control at my last job and enjoyed it. It worked reliably and it’s a quick install in the IT staff on first connection.

I’ve used a handful from TeamViewer to LogMeIn Rescue, to Bomgar. It all depends on what your remote needs are, but if you’re looking for easy to use and not super-expensive then either TeamViewer or Rescue are great products. I used to push out TV with all settings via Group Policy and it worked out well. I’d open my TV Manager console and could easily import any new installs and connect without user intervention.

I use teamviewer where I am, and the users don’t even need to click on something. You can set up unattended access, and as soon as they contact us, we can remote into the machines and do what we need to. It’s very intuitive and easy to set up.

+1 for TeamViewer.

Im able to file transfer, switch users and it’s easy for the end users to connect to- less than a minute to connect. We have TeamViewer as part of our image with our client passwords already configured. It seems secure so far too.

Teamviewer hands down. We have three sites (CA, UT, Canada) and Teamviewer allows remote connection whether I am at home or at the office and also from my smartphone. We probably have 300+ workstations across three sites and we were able to push out unattended access installs via GPO and we didn’t have to ‘touch’ each computer and install the teamviewer software. Teamviewer also has a meeting software as part of the package and you can do instant or schedule meeting and share your screen as well as video conferencing.

I use Gotoassist, and have used it now at two concurrent jobs. Really enjoy the product, makes it so much easier.

I also use the unattended support feature which is nice. I work at a medical manufacturer, and we have 3 computers in our clean room. Having unattended support means that I don’t have to spend 10 minutes gowning up to access the area.

Depends on your seutp, but I’m still an old fan of UltraVNC, but I love team viewer because you can push out through GP and automatically have it in your manager view on every site without the users having to do anything.

I have too used TeamViewer with no issues. Free for personal use but they do charge for business.

Teamviewer since we ditched LogMeIn. If you are only talking an internal LAN and cost is an issue the old faithful Windows Remote Desktop does what it says on the tin. Setup the remote assistance feature as discussed in this thread http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/341777-remote-dektop-without-kicking-user-off-and-without-a-prompt-on-users-end?page=2&source=recommended

Having used Teamviewer RDP VNC Dameware Gotoassist and Logmein I would plump for Teamviewer / Logmein

Both very good solutions to that perennial remote support issue.

We use LoginMeIn Central- you just pay for the central and then can install the free client on all the machines

works great

We had LogMeIn Free, and then we had to pull the trigger and either buy LogMeIn Central or switch to something else.

I fought like crazy for TeamViewer, I’ve used the free version for years and like it slightly more than LogMeIn, but I couldn’t get management to switch to something different.

Having said that, I love LogMeIn, I use it almost all day long (everyday) and it hasn’t let me down yet.

I have used Dameware, Manage Engine Desktop Central, Team View and UltraVNC. I generally used DC and Damware for local hosts, And team viewer for hosts not on site.
