Apple TV won't appear on airplay list

Hello everyone,

When I reset an Apple TV using iTunes after I have done this the Apple TV won’t then appear in the AirPlay list and I’m stuck as to why? The Apple TV is on the latest software which is 7.2 and my iPad is on the latest software which is 8.3 so any ideas or help is much appreciated guys!!

Me and my brother has had this problem many times, usually a reboot of the Apple TV or keeping trying your iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch/iTunes and so force and keep trying to get airplay working by scanning for it, also make sure that Bluetooth in enabled and on when you scan for it. um though I could be wrong.

Are you using multicast? Are they on the same network (IE not split between wireless and wired connection). Any firewall in place that could be blocking the broadcast of Bonjour?

just to add a bit more of confusion I work in a school and we have other Apple TV’s that are appearing on the AirPlay list just not the two which I have reset through iTunes, yes they are on the correct wireless

Do you have an Ethernet cable plugged into it?

I was just thinking it could be a firewall issue. A reset may result in changing IP address and your firewall might be blocking it.

We have a few AppleTVs around here in our conference rooms and a reboot will usually fix the issue. I would reboot both the AppleTV and the device trying to connect to it.

Also, make sure that the AppleTV isn’t connected to a guest network or blocked by the firewall as others have suggested.

Make sure the AppleTV is “activated” in the settings.

We’ve got a couple Apple TVs in conference rooms here and generally they work great.

But as others have said, I find every few weeks we have to reboot them to get them to work. I haven’t spent much time worrying about it since it happens pretty infrequently.
