Hey all, it’s about that time of year again to start planning for the unofficial SpiceWorld run. Tagging MarkT94 since he led our group for the last few in-person SpiceWorld’s, and LeeE who organized the 2020 virtual run. (Also tagging Jimmy T and Sean for awareness).

As we’ve done in the past, we’ll meet at the Cul-de-sac at the end of Trinity Street and run a loop around the lake that has two options for 5K and 5-mile distances. We’ll poll the group that morning and see which distance everyone wants to run. If we are split between the two, I’ll ensure whoever wishes to run either distance doesn’t go alone for safety.

Here’s the link from our last in-person run for more details: Spiceworld 2019 5k-ish Run

Date: Thursday, September 29, 2022

Time: 6:00 AM

Location: Cul-de-sac at the south end of Trinity Street, straight down from the Convention Center. ( https://www.google.com/maps/place/30°15’41.7"N+97°44’29.0"W/@30.2615762,-97.7419455,19z )

Route: 5-mile: http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=715610
5K: Google Map Pedometer / GMaps Pedometer for Running, Walking, Cycling, and Hiking

Tips: It is recommended to bring a flash light or headlamp as the path will be dark at that time, especially underneath the bridges. Also, consider shortening your stride and watching for objects on the ground as parts of this trail are not paved (i.e., limestone/dirt). Austin also can be pretty humid at this time of year, so bring water or Gatorade.

Oh, so glad to see this returning! And while I know the run and hanging out with peers is the real reward, we do also have a badge for this

If you would keep me in the loop as you finalize details so it can be added to the event calendar!

You will only see me when running from zombies.

5 Spice ups

I don’t run from things. I run toward things – like bacon, beer and chili.

5 Spice ups

What if @sean-spiceworks brings bacon?

Ooh! I’d run my ass off for that!

You heard him, @sean-spiceworks . See you guys at the Start!!

That is the 5 mile route. the 5K route crosses back using Congress

For those that chose Friday, I don’t think you are thinking straight. The Spiceworld after party at ACL is Thursday evening, usually followed up by things on 6th street.

Before the pandemic when I went, I was pretty psyched for the run. Unfortunately sleep won that battle. Definitely gotta plan better this year. Its easy to get exhausted in general with so much going on and so many people to talk to. Hopefully I’ll make it this year, even if only for a few miles!

I haven’t run in a year - not sure I’m up for 5 miles, but 5K - I can probably do that.

Thanks for the tip! I’ve updated the original post accordingly to include the two options. We can play it by ear that morning that see what everyone wants to do.

So are y’all running? I may bring my bike and follow you or do some miles around there too …

2 Spice ups

Yep, I’ll be updating the details soon. Looks like it will be Thursday.

I gotta ask @cynlis if there is enough space in the hotel room for a bike? my baby ain’t sleeping outside.

Thursday’s the day… Heck yes! Been jogging ~1-2 lately every few days to get prepped. 6 though. Sheesh. I gotta get up earlier to prep for that too. I’m usually up about 7-7:30. Regardless, I think I’ll do the 5k at a casual pace, just enjoying it and the morning.
Question though, what’s the temperature about that time? I’m assuming warm, as I’m from the PNW and the heat currently is about too much for me. (65+F/19C)
I’m assuming shorts and a sleeveless sweat wicking shirt will be fine.
Do we just run it and then go our separate ways, or do we run, meet up and do something from there or chat? Just getting an idea.
Thanks Spice-Peeps!

@sean-spiceworks told me that there is rain in the forecast

It’s Texas so you never know how it will change (sometimes by the minute). So far, though, it looks like the highs for temperature will be around 86°F (30°C). So that will be nice!

@sean-spiceworks … “Nice” … I think we have different definitions of “Nice”… Hahaha. I’ve ran in everything from below freezing to 101F, … ugh. A nice temp for a run for me is probably 55 or so. I’ll have to remember to drink extra for that. I will definitely be a sweaty mess by the time we’re done. I already sweat enough here. … Yikes! Its gonna be a day my friend! I can’t wait! Looking forward to meeting you peeps irl!
