Best VPN (Speed and No Tracking/Logs)

Looking for simply the best VPN product out there. Been looking at purchasing CyberGhost but I wanted to know the opinions of the fellow peppers here. Please list the VPN you use or recommend and a quick point as to why.

There just isn’t anything like that. There are many excellent VPN products that excel at different things. IPSec is best for latency in most scenarios. OpenVPN is the most flexible while still being fast and secure. Pertino is possibly the most powerful and fastest for certain edge cases. PPTP is useful when you have legacy gear and don’t care much about security.

“Best” is very, very subjective.

You really need to define your specific scenario and we can work out what might make sense. Each VPN is very different.

Looking for something to cover me from being tracked while @ home. What product would you recommend Scott? I don’t have a personal firewall so in my mind this is the best option.

OH, that’s very different. These are business VPN products. You want an obfuscation service handled via a VPN. That I don’t know. Hola does that, but I doubt it is the best or anything, just one that I know.

surfeasy I have used and is good and pretty reputable from what I can tell. It has some cool features too like seamless iphone app to let you select what country you want to be in. frootvpn comes via piratebay referral and works and is free.

There is also the Tor browser that bounces traffic around but the best way to not be tracked at home is simply to not use the internet.

Private Internet Access is good and has tons of servers (~29 atm). The speed is pretty decent as well, even with the max security settings. They accept a variety of payment options including gift cards if you’re really trying to keep it anonymous.

Cyberghost is pretty decent though as well but tends to be slow and the client is so-so.

What the best fit for you will be will depend on your specific use case.

have no experience with this VPN, so read the PC Mag article. The Tor network isn’t perfect but it certainly makes tracking difficult

What are you going to use it for?

What services/programs/applications are you trying to run through it?

Is it just to avoid tracking so you can obfuscate your browsing, or are you trying to run specific programs through it that will make connections to other services at other locations that you control or don’t control?

Are you trying to make VPN connections between two (or multiple locations) that you control?

What kind of performance are you looking for? How will you measure this?

What Operating System(s) or devices will it need to support?

What type of (Tracking) are you referring to? And what format of reporting are you wanting?

Without knowing what your specific requirements are, limits any type of recommendations anyone can make to your specific needs to just educated (or even non-educated) guesses.

If you’re trying to do something untoward, questionable, or illegal, even using an obfuscation service, VPN service or something similar, there are still ways that law enforcement agencies can potentially gain access/uncover/serve warrants to legitimate companies for logs/etc., in order to get information on you. Tor is also not always 100% obfuscated depending on how you are using it as there are certain circumstances where other objects will leak your identity information to 3rd parties.

I’m not saying this to scare you. This advice is so you do proper research into whatever solution, company or service that you decide on using, even if using it for legitimate reasons.

A more common use for a VPN would be protection when not at home on open WiFi networks such as Coffee Shops, Hotels, etc.

You need to define “tracked”.

Cookies are a perfect example of tracking.

Hook up to a VPN and all the adverts and stuff will still be there and will still be tailored just for you because the IP address your requests originate from doesn’t dictate the advertising content you see - well that’s not strictly true it might dictate whether you see US, UK, or Romanian content, but the cookies will be the think that keeps track.

So it’s back to what are you trying to do?

I have a firewall on my PC @ home of course. Also on my router. I meant an enterprise grade network firewall.

I’m looking to avoid being tracked by anyone/anything. I want no logs saved via the VPN @ all. The intent isn’t malicious I just want the most privacy possible through my home. Looking for a Windows desktop VPN client to be specific.
