Chromebook and ClearOS

I help support 5 schools and recently been given the task to get chromebook to connect to our wireless network. I can get them to connect but unable to open web pages. When off campus the chromebook will work fine. We are using ClearOS as our Web Proxy. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

You’d treat this as any standard issue. What’s blocking the laptop from getting to the internet? Did you try anything? did you not try anything? Why? Are other laptops / devices experiencing similar issues? You didn’t provide much for us to go off of.

Try going online without the proxy on location. If that works, it’s a proxy issue. I’ve never used a Chromebook with a proxy, but I wouldn’t think it’s any different from any other device. We just use our Firewall to filter, and Chromebooks work fine through that.

Thanks for the reply, we have a Cisco router and are using ClearOS firewall. Our Chromebook can connect to the wireless network but can only open secure web pages. https pages will open fine but http pages will not open.

I’m not blocked from the internet, I can connect to the wireless network and internet but the chromebook will only pull up a webpage if I have an https address. Since we are using a ClearOS as a firewall, we have to manually turn off the firewall on our laptops for them to successfully open a webpage. Thanks for any advice.
