Hello guys

We have an issue in one site and need help.

We have a main site that has a VM server on a cloud provider and they are connected with a Site to Site VPN. The main site has a ServerA that acts as the primary domain controller and the VM ServerB on the cloud is the secondary domain controller, also the two servers have DFS replication.

Recently the provider and rolled back the VM server during a maintenance and we lost everything, but after reporting the problem they reversed the server to the latest configuration.

From this time and then we have found two issues until now

a) From the main site when i ping the Cloud server with his name ping ServerB it is ok it replies back, but when i ping the primary DC from the cloud Server it says “Ping request could not find host ServerA. Please check the name and try again.” When i ping with IP is OK. It can not resolve the names not only from the main site server from all the PCs in main site.

b) When i open the DFS Manager I see this error. “The namespace cannot be queried. Access is denied.”

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

Ok so let do issue a first:

This is most likely a DNS problem (isnt it always DNS). First just make sure all the setting on server b are correct. ServerB should ideally point to ServerA as its primary DNS server if ServerA is functioning as a DNS server. check to see if the DNS client is running properly and try running ipconfig /flushdns to clear the DNS resolver cache.

It might also be worth it to check the DNS records on ServerA to make sure that it correctly lists ServerB and itself.

Now for poroblem b.

The access is denied error could be related to permission issues or DFS namespace corruption. I would make sure the DFS Namespace service is running on both servers. If it’s stopped on either server, start it and check if the issue persists. Also verify that the permissions for the DFS namespace are properly set making sure that both servers and the relevant user accounts have the right permissions to access the DFS namespace.

If you can try and recreate the the DFS link or namespace as sometimes, rolling back a VM can corrupt configurations which are only resolved by re-establishing them.

Then if still nothing is working your going to need to head into the event viewer on both server A & B for any more specific error messages.

{"@type":"Person
stefan-pulseway
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/stefan-pulseway"}},{"@type":"Answer

“It’s not DNS

There’s no way it’s DNS

It was DNS”

-SSBroski (according to the print I have in my cube.)

Probably worth checking firewall settings all around too. Who knows what may have changed if the provider can do something so dolt as rollback without permission.

{"@type":"Person
kwelch007
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/kwelch007"}},{"@type":"Answer
