Find a MB for this ram

Hi all! Having a terrible time finding a motherboard for this ram. Any suggestions on sites, motherboards, etc… is super appreciated

RAM: 16gb sticks - 4 sticks
DDR3L 1866mhz 240 pin UDIMM RAM

Is this RAM used for lappy and macbooks ?? The “L” may denote that it is for laptops ?

The L denotes low voltage

Why would you want to find a montherboard to match the ram, and not ram to match a motherboard though?

Most boards supporting DDR3 will support the L variety of ram, however you cannot mix them and you need to check the manual first as it may also depend on the CPU used

Different Types of RAM Hardware

I was looking at buying some RAM for a Dell PowerEdge 710 and was wondering what the differences between PC3-10600, PC3-10600R, PC3-10600H, and PC3L-10600R are... Assuming they're all Registered ECC, would they all be compatible? I've tried searching to find the differences but Google doesn't seem to like minor differences in strings.

Some say that DDR3L has the same but selected chips that can work at 1.35V and the ones that can’t are used in 1.5V DDR3 memory sticks. So DDR3L will work in DDR3 slots. DDR3 is about 12 years old at least, while DDR4 became available in late 2014 late and so motherboards of 2015 to 2018 vintage will probably be a target for your search. Have a look for used ones on ebay to see what the RAM specs are.

Your biggest struggle may be the fact these are UDIMM.
Why not ask the client what system it came from or if you can have the system as well.

UDIMM simply means unbuffered - basically standard RAM as opposed to buffered or registered RAM used mostly for servers.

I would decide what processor you plan to use, pick the DDR3 motherboard of your choice that supports that processor and check the specs. Even if the specs don’t specifically mention DDR3L, if you check the RAM compatibility list for that board and find DDR3L modules on it, then you know it should work.

Since we’re talking 2nd to 4th generation Intel processors here - why bother? LOL

It’s noble and should be the way to always do this. However, your search might cost more than buying new memory.

That is, if it doesn’t matter what the size of the motherboard is (if it has to fit in a special casing).

think that is what I’ve just bought to upgrade a (no longer under support) Checkpoint firewall (checkpoint list price is over GBP 2.5k for 32Gb), bluntly don’t bother trying to reuse it,

I’ve got a couple of Old Dell R 210 appliance boxes (Exinda 4061s if any one is really interested) whcih are about 12 years old which take the same RAM…

You’ll do better ebaying it off & buying a new box from scratch.
