Hi Everyone,
We have Spiceworks Installed at our Head Office and we have inter-branches at various location in the city which are connected vai a Netgear router to the our head office.

Can Spicework Work across our VPN connection in order for us to use the helpdesk and inventory function?

Kind regards,

Reginald

If you can ping a computer across your VPN, you can use Spiceworks. You may have to ensure that your router is not prohibiting some requests from going through but in general it will work.

Thanks For the information, it was really helpful.

No problem. Just be weary that the wake on LAN may not work (if used) and that traffic will be increased over your link and your users may experience delays and sluggishness during a scan.

Ok man, I will surely look out for that… I will have the scan run during less buys hours then.

I had the same original question, but I need more answers. How do you actual get this all setup to work?

@Tool Man

  1. Please ALWAYS open your own thread for your own question. Not only is this hijacking but far worse is that absolutely no one sees your question and so no knows that we were ignoring you.
  2. There is no setup whatsoever to scan over a VPN. A VPN appears exactly like a local network so you scan it exactly as if there was no VPN.

Rather than scanning over the VPN, we now have the Remote Collector which works far better because of more granular controls and improved bandwidth utilization.
