Asking Better Questions

I don’t have one nor do I have a curved TV and never seen one in a store but see commercials for them all the time.

Just wanted to know if anyone has one and like it better than a regular Wide Flat Panel.

Just like the 4k TV’s, I have no clue what’s so good about them.

I dont own one but i’ve seen one in action and my reaction is just “Meh…” One thing is for sure though, I will not pay an extra $300-$500 just because my screen is bent.

I’m talking about a Samsung TV BTW.

There is more of an immersive feel, especially in Fallout 4. This does diminish the further you get though so be aware of the sweet spot and make sure you are in it.

I have noticed there are horizontal reflections which is kind of annoying so make sure to minimize light sources from behind if you can.

Meh. Maybe if I ever buy a TV for home I would get a fancy one.

For work, I would much rather keep separate screens to match the separate logical compartments I stick stuff into while I’m working.

I would say it just depends on your preferences! Curved monitors were pretty much built for immersion and reduced eye movement to make it comfortable for you to work (or game, as some have said above). One cool feature that Dell’s UltraSharp 34 Curved Monitor is that you can simultaneously work from two PCs on one screen.

They are cool looking. I checked one out in a Microsoft store and after a few minutes, my own feeling was that it would be good for gaming, but did not like the subtle distortion that I perceived with text. Based on my limited experience with it, I prefer separate flat monitors for business work.

They do have a split screen type of feature but I prefer different monitors as well. Game on one and watch temps and OC on the other. At work it’s still dual monitors because if I got one everyone else would complain and moan until they got one.

A flat 24" display is plenty big for everything I need. 27" even better but not necessary.

I’ve always heard the curve is supposed to be easier on you eyes as it follows the curvature of your eye. Same with big movie theaters… not sure if you’ve ever noticed, but movie theater screens are also curved.

We just started buying/deploying 34" 4k curved monitors (Dell U3415W) here at work and people love them vs. our previous setup of 2 24" flat monitors (Dell U2412M).

We just started buying/deploying 34" 4k curved monitors (Dell U3415W) here at work and people love them vs. our previous setup of 2 24" flat monitors (Dell U2412M).

A quick look at the Dell website has the U3415W at a premium of 40% over the cost of two U2412M monitors.

Just curious how you justified the added expense. We’re a CAD shop (running Revit and AutoCAD primarily). I’ve always been curious if it would be worth it. What are your users primarily using the monitor for?

Short answer: No.

Longer answer: No. There have been plenty of studies on what the human eye can and cannot see based on size if screen, and resolution. A curved screen for a monitor, let alone anything a normal human would have in their house does nothing for you except to depart your hard earned dollars from your wallet on “the new shiny” which will rust over as the trendiness dies off.
