I’ve installed it on hyper-v and see that there’s ads popping up everywhere so I am assuming this is the free version.

Can you verify?

Just the one version, and yes it’s free! The ads are what pays for the software.

There is only the free version. I understand the Spiceworks will only be supporting the cloud version going forwarding. What’s going on with Spiceworks Tools & Apps in 2021?

As Robert has already replied, all editions of Spiceworks are free. The paid option is no longer available for subscription, for several years now.

As you’ve downloaded an edition, I assume that you’re referring to the Ubuntu VM edition Spiceworks Help Desk Server (HDS). Am I right?

The reference provided by Martin is outdated. We’re awaiting an update soon. The state of the HDS edition is almost unchanged since the publication of product roadmap referenced by Marting. It is under almost full support. It’s last update was a security update in December 2021. It’s active development has been suspended (until end of last year). This suspension has been prolonged without further notice as the promised review for December 2021 has not yet been finished and hence its outcome not yet known. Even Spiceworkers don’t yet know the outcome. As you see the publication date of the last year publication, you may expect the update to become published either this month or this quarter.
