What sort of data are you going to be moving? If you Look at Open Mesh for WiFi for some of what you are looking for. You are more than likely still going to need to do wired to desks. There are several discussions about not doing your entire office as WiFi.

There is a lot of planning that will come with laying out a new network so don’t try and skimp on price. Do your planning and do it right.

What you need is a firewall/router and wireless access points like Neally said.

Wired to the workstations would be a better option than wireless.

What is your background? Have you worked on any firewalls before? (Examples: Sonicwall, Cisco, Watchdog…).

What is your budget?

Although it is optimized for home, you could take a look into Velop Mesh WiFi which can cover multiple floors and can cover up to 6,000 square feet which has also gotten tons of positive reviews

At that budget, you aren’t going to get what you need. You are really going to need to do some research and you are going to find the cost is going to be much more than that for anything that is worthwhile.

That might get you just the firewall, but you will not have enough for the wireless and the needed cabling.

You just want a router and wireless after that? That is a very poor design for a business.

First you said you need a firewall and later you said you didn’t. It seems the scope of the project is changing.

I would guess the project is going to be closer to $1000, but should be more if it is done right by running Ethernet to all workstation and just have wireless for mobile devices.

If so, you can use our appliance sizing tool to determine which of our appliance best fits your environment. I echo other sentiments in previous posts that you may want to reconsider your budget to get everything you would need to cover the two floors. You could check out Orbi Pro by Netgear. The best WiFi. Everywhere. | Fastest WiFi speeds | NETGEAR However under $300 isn’t going to happen, not if you want good WIFI connectivity.

Gilb… from what I am reading you are on a budget but still want a firewall and wifi, and from the sounds of it with only a $300 budget you arent really confined to a corperate environment that needs new devices.

That all in consideration here is what I would suggest:

Get the Watchguard T-10 W Firewall appliance ($258.00) WatchGuard Firebox T10 Wireless | GuardSite.com
and then for each floor get a refurbished Cisco WS-C2950G-24-EI 24-port switch ($40 each) networkhardwareoutlet.com - networkhardwareoutlet Resources and Information.

That would get you 48 wired ports plus WiFi (upto 200 users but dont max it out) through a firewall at only $340 total. A little over budget for hardware…this does not include any wiring costs. This is about the best you are going to get that will give you 50 users support, a firewall and around the $300 range.
