Monitor and control users desktops

Hello!

Is there a recommended software that you use to view and control users desktops live? All of our PC’s are windows computers. The propose is so that we can see what users are doing at all times and if they have an issue we can take control of their PC to assist them remotely. This is a local network.

If you want a solution that is pretty robust, with the added bonus that users can see what you are doing and interact with you, I would suggest Team Viewer. Unfortunately, it carries a pretty hefty price tag if you are going to be managing any number of devices.

As far as free (completely free), good old Windows RDP works fine.

Have you thought about iTALC before? It is geared towards teachers, but might work in your situation.

Also, I remember NetOp having a solution similar to this that a local library used to keep an eye on their lab.

TeamViewer seems to be a favorite among many of our fellow Spiceheads. LogMeIn is probably a better program for this application. You may want to use your favorite search engine to include “LogMeIn and TeamViewer”; I’m sure other systems will be in some of the search results.
Maybe even a better search: Use the search feature on the top-right of this page to search our helpful forum.

You could always just install a VNC server on each machine, provided your viewer and the workstations are behind the same firewall. TightVNC works for us. http://www.tightvnc.com/

Do you really need to be able to see what all users are doing at all times? Or do you just need to be able to see what any of them are doing at any time?

TV can be setup so it is always running and has a set password, so you can just connect and go?

otherwise screenconnect also works well, but pricing is a little off now.

Gotcha. Since these machines are all on-network then VNC would be an obvious solution. As mentioned above there are free variants and RealVNC provide an Enterprise level version. We also offer a 50% discount to Spiceheads.

Attached is a data sheet. I can set you up with licences for testing with once you have finished your research.

ScreenConnect would be a great option. You can test it out in a free trial www.screenconnect.com/trial . Pricing has changed over the past year, but we also came out with a cloud version.

Self hosted perpetual license for up to 3 techs to host up to 10 concurrent sessions each is $2,195

ScreenConnect Cloud subscription packages range from $19 to $24 per month.

There is another access-only cloud option that’s good for companies looking to replace VPN services.
