Hello everyone,

Just wondering if is possible to move the disks to another server and maintain the RAIDs of the disks, without losing the data on them.

So long as it’s the same hardware and RAID controller, it should import it as a foreign configuration, however, this does not negate the need to have a working backup as a safety net.

{"@type":"Person
Rod-IT
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/Rod-IT"}},{"@type":"Answer

Usually can work for Hardware RAID…but you need to remember the sequence or order of the HDD.

But you also need to know if the other server supports the OS as you may get BSOD if the hardware differs too much.

Then the licenses would be tricky also if you are using OEM licenses.

{"@type":"Person
adrian_ych
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/adrian_ych"}},{"@type":"Answer

I don’t this has applied for some time, so long as all disks in the set exist.

You may want to try this on a test server.

{"@type":"Person
Rod-IT
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/Rod-IT"}},{"@type":"Answer

Hi everyone,

Thank you for all the comments, we actually getting the same server, so all the hardware should be the same, fingers cross, will post it as soon managed to get this up and running.

{"@type":"Person
Nuno85
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/Nuno85"}},{"@type":"Answer

Make absolutely certain you get the disks into the new chassis in the same order they were in the old one, or you run the risk of having it not recognize the array and re-initialize the thing.

I know this should go without saying, but please ensure that you have a functioning backup that you have verified through some restore process. Any type of maintenance that could go horribly wrong (whether from hardware or user error) should have a way out.

Again, make sure you have backups and have tested them. Otherwise, as others have stated, if hardware lines up this should work through importing the foreign config.

{"@type":"Person
jonahzona
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/jonahzona"}},{"@type":"Answer

if you get stuck there are apps line UNraid (been a while) which will read a bunch of raid disks and allow you to extract data.

{"@type":"Person
colinkent
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/colinkent"}}]}}

Hi everyone,
Just to let you know that I have managed to get al the VMs up and running, however now I came across another issue our DNS doesn’t seem to be working properly, but this is for another Topic which I’ve posted.
If anyone could have a look and share any ideas, that would be much appreciated.
Need help with this issue.
Had to restart the AD/DNS main box, as the hardware died, but now it seems DNS is not being picked up, I've run the following test and I get Del FAIL. Any ideas?
DCDIAG /TEST:DNS /v /e

But for this topic all good now, thank you all.
