No Longer able to log into my Spiceworks Server

Yes, I know it was EOL. But we have continued to use our Spiceworks 7.5 server because it has been excellent and I prefer local secured servers. Last week we were suddenly unable to log in anymore. I can log onto Spiceworks (obviously) but get a timeout logging into my own server. I know it is up and running as users can still get into the helpdesk and submit tickets. I can also get in from the help desk with my AD account. I just can’t log in from the front page anymore with my Spiceworks Username and Password. I am wondering if something was just recently changed at Spiceworks that broke the connection??

Yes, I know it is EOL, but it was great and I do not want to migrate to the cloud. I have a great local VM environment that continues to work for the school even when our internet provider goes down. My servers are 100% and the internet is 98%.

Although the workaround works, it does not work with the App on my phone, so I would like full functionality again.

Anyway, thanks in advance if anyone has a suggestion or solution.

We are experiencing the same issue. And yes like you, do not want to migrate to the cloud. I did for another Spiceworks instance and I just do not like that version at all! They EOL’d a great product for sure.

Same issue here. Spiceworks desktop was a great product, now I have to find multiple products to do the same job.

Glad to hear it isn’t just me. I made a whole new server, redid NGINX, and no joy. I can’t log into the new server to finish the install and restore the backup. Gives a timeout error. When I tried to go directly to the internal IP address I can logon. Which seems strange since I can’t go directly to the IP address of the new server. I am hoping someone at Spiceworks.com sees this and switches back whatever they did.

Using EOL products, while they work for you and do as you want, bring their own risks. Not allowing the server access to the internet is a start, but this may stop the app working on mobiles, unfortunately that is a choice you need to make.

It is highly unlikely they will revert the changes to support an EOL product. We all know there are risks when products become EOL, be that support, patching, vulnerabilities, all of the above or something else.

The server has to connect to the internet as far as I can see. It authenticates the logon with the Spiceworks.com account for pro user logon. And it still has AD threads. It is a change that they just made as it worked until Friday or Saturday.

It will work offline as it will used cached credentials. You wont be able to invite new users, add accounts, reset passwords etc, but it should work fine - if you look through older threads, many people used it in air-gapped networks after initial setup.

Access to the main site was changed March 1st (you will note this by the community layout), so the URLs that the old application, which as you know is dead, calls out to likely wont be the same. So as I mentioned, it’s unlikely they will restore this.

It’s been noted in the link I provided and with any EOL app, your usage and time with it varies.

Don’t use EOL products.

If you must use it, there are no workarounds, other than blocking internet access and using cached credentials.

See if it still happens when Spiceworks Desktop doesn’t have internet access.

Authentication services was announced to end as of Dec 2023 but nothing in the database makes me think the cached copy of the credentials should expire. Maybe the response it receives when trying to contact authentication services makes it think the password is no longer valid.

Spiceworks Desktop was great but is EOL. I’ve transitioned my selected alternative, and I hope you have a plan for an alternative if the cloud version doesn’t meet you needs. I miss it.

Sorry… this will not be fixed by Spiceworks. It is end of life, and end of support.

We understand that our current offering doesn’t meet the needs of everyone, and acknowledge that there are many like you who can’t use cloud solutions. If switching to CHD won’t work for you, we encourage you to find another helpdesk software that does meet your needs.

What security policies prevent you? I ask out of curiosity, because the on-prem Spiceworks, the one you have isn’t suitable if you have to comply with certain policies either.
