Did Microsoft have a booth last year?

I think so - since we helped with it. Because they are Microsoft and literally every person there already knows everything that they do and is already using them, no one visits them or talks to them. There are companies that people don’t know with products that they don’t know that are valuable to go talk to. But Microsoft, you can find out what they offer anytime. And if you don’t already know, why are you at SpiceWorld?

So now it’s not about competition, now they must only go to a conference if people don’t know about them. I’m pretty sure people have heard of most of the vendors; HP, Canon, Lenovo, Samsung, Symantec, McAfee, MalwareBytes, etc.

To be fair, HP, Canon, Lenovo, Samsung, Symantec, McAfee, and MB are in extremely competitive spaces and competitors have booths here. I don’t think Microsoft looses sleep at their competition like these companies have to.

I’m sure they don’t either.

For the record, I don’t care of they’re there or not. There’s nothing I want to see or ask. I’ve already installed Server 2016 TP, Windows 10, and I use Office 2013 with no intention of migrating to O365 in the near future. It’s not just about sales or competition, there’s more beneath the layers. Regardless, if anyone has Windows questions, there’s going to be someone there that can help them.

Maybe not Windows 10 as a whole, but sysadmin-related aspects, like deploying and managing, or the 2016 range of products.

Odd to me that Microsoft has not joined in the conversation here. Appearing in Spiceworld with a session on windows 10 would be beneficial to them and us in the SMB space. If you are still on windows 7, why would you care to make the move unless you think it is going to be the best thing since mayo. If you are on Windows 8 you most likely have end users that will be clamoring for W10. but upgrading is different for the SMB world, than the consumer world and that is what I think Microsoft should be selling. How to painlessly make the change, and when.

Yeah this was news to me, but I’m sure that everyone here can understand that there has to be budget for the team to have a presence at Spiceworld. I doubt Spiceworks is giving out their booth space for free…

I heard rumors that this is something we are trying to fix (Microsoft & Spiceworks), but TBD at the moment.

Hope something can be done…

He did a “Ready, Steady Cloud” session with Ed Baker showing different ways of cooking up an Azure VM on Tuesday afternoon, I’ve still got my apron! I agree he’s always entertaining as well as being technically good.

There was also a “Goodbye 8, Hello Windows 10 session” on Wednesday morning with Ed and another MS guy.

I could have sworn I saw you at the first one!

Seems like a good place to market Windows 10 for business. Everything I see for marketing seems to point towards retail side of the product. Also I’m curious, I see a few references to windows 8, are there a lot of SMB’s using 8? We never even considered using Windows 8. I have always assumed if you are part of the Spiceworks community then you are working with business products and not so much of the retail side.

Microsoft has competitors of varying sizes in most of its product lines. Google Apps for Work for the core office suite, Lucidchart for Visio, AWS/Dropbox/Google Drive for cloud storage, etc.

Yes, Microsoft is still the dominant player in all of these markets. However, if they ignore their user base, they will leave themselves vulnerable to competition over time.

Update I’m afraid its a bit of a good news/bad news type of thing.

Good news, I am attending SpiceWorld 2015.

Bad news, Microsoft will not have a booth presence on the floor this year.

What that means for you? Well… it will be a bit of a where’s Waldo type thing for me… I will be joining the festivities amongst everyone else, hitting up the booths & sessions.

So please stop me and say hi, ask me any questions or just shoot the breeze with me. I am really looking forward to connecting with everyone… even if it is in just passing or over a beer!
