powershell output to columns in csv

Having trouble with what should be a simple task in powershell. I just want to be able to have one statement output to column A and the next statement output to column B. So far my code just puts both in one column, and I’m not sure this is even the right way to go about it:

add-content C:\Temp\file.csv “$($computer) ;” -NoNewline
get-Content -Path \$computer\C$\Tools\Logs\results.log -Tail 1 | Out-File C:\Temp\file.csv -Append

So, first column should contain $computer, and second column should contain the last line of the results.log file.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

For CSV files, could use Export-CSV -Append instead of Add-Content.

May need some tweaking but I would try something like this:

Get-Content -Path \\$Computer\C$\Tools\Logs\Results.log -tail -1 | select @{N="Computer";E={$Computer}},@{N="Log";E={$_}} | export-CSV Output.csv -Append -NoTypeInformation

If you’re using v3 or greater you can just make an object as below and export it:

$Object = [pscustomobject]@{
    Computer = $Computer
    LastLine = (Get-Content -Path "\\$Computer\C$\Tools\Logs\results.log" -Tail 1)
}
$Object | Export-Csv -Path "C:\Temp\file.csv" -NoTypeInformation

You can build your output to CSV, one record/line at a time.

Just output your first column to a string variable then add the next column separating by comma.

$NewRecord = $OutputOfFunction1

$NewRecord = $NewRecord + "," + $OutputOfFunction2

$NewRecord | Out-File "C:\path\to\my.csv" -Append
