Hello,

New here, trying to find a group where I can ask and seek insight from, I just started my IT career and work as an IS&T Admin.

Welcome aboard. As you have probably already had a look around you will notice there are a variety of forums and some private groups. Usually there is no problem with finding some place to post your questions where others in the same field will be able to provide their insight. This forum being the water cooler is a place to come and NOT discuss work but have a little fun. One of the popular articles is the daily “Spark” which is written by some of the members here and provides some relevant facts and stories from history that occurred on a particular day along with other varying features like recipes, cartoons, a motivating meme from Inspirobot and often a song of the day. You can ask and seek from any category you need help with.

For example if you have questions related to AD, post in Active Directory/GPO

As Repairatrooper said, there are tons of articles, forums, and groups here to ask questions and all sorts. spiceworks in general terms is a large hive-mind style species of a bunch of techs, vendors, and generalized IT Enthusiasts. (just kidding-kind of) and we are all here to help each other out if we can, have some good laughs here and there. and learn all sorts of random tips, tricks, and ideas. there are also usually spice-groups for local areas and there might be one near you where you can actually meet other IT Pros in your area and build yourself a good network of local contacts to help you out here or there as well. or just to get together with and blow off some steam every now and again.

also if youre interested in just some specific topics you can go to those topic pages and follow that topic and get some updates and notifications when things get posted.

Some tips.

When you post in a category (like this one https://community.spiceworks.com/windows/windows-11 ), on the right hand side you will see a list of the experts in this section.

When you look at a topic and people post, next to their name you will see how many best answers and helpful posts a person has in that category (example Windows 11 SRP to Block Store )

Hopefully this will give you some confidence in knowing those offering their help do a good job.

You can also click a persons name and be taken to their profile page, where you can read about that person, their skills and so on.

Feel free to tell us about yourself here Introduce Yourself! and populate your profile - it helps us answer questions better based on your skillsets and experience.

Congrats on jumping into IT! You’ve found a GREAT community in Spiceworks. Jump on in, not only to ask questions, but to read about what others are doing (I’m here daily, not just when I need help). I learn a LOT by just reading discussions not directly related to tasks I’m involved in. I’m almost 24 years into IT now, and there is ALWAYS more to learn. As long as you are having fun, it won’t be “work”, so try to get into an area you enjoy.

I know sometimes it can be hard to throw a question on the internet and not immediately be concerned with the, ahem, tone of replies. While we do keep things spicy here, we do also try to keep it pretty friendly (and I hope the responses above display that).

The one thing I’ll throw in is also check out our Field Guide:

It will give you a good 101 overview of the Community. Most of it is fairly self-explanatory but we do have a few nuances when compared to other communities and sites.

Discord Servers too. But I do not browse this much. It gets too chaotic for me sometimes…
