UFO Day - Funny thing…I’ve seen a UFO. I also know a secret…we’re the aliens here.
Horse Day - My favorite horse is one that is as far away from me as it can get.
Space Exploration Day - See item #1, there has already been humans born in space.
Hammock day - When I was younger I could sleep the day away. As I get older, it get’s harder and harder to get a good nights sleep. You could say that sleep and I have a contentious relationship.
Sysadmin Day - I do get the occational addulation, but it’s not what I’m here for so that’s okay.

I like aliens that will teach us as much as we teach them. For example, the Cytherians who bring the Enterprise (STNG) over 30,000 light years to collaborate. I think some assume that aliens are like humans (generally mean). Maybe we will find that the next alien encounter will be peaceful and meaningful.

I loved the movie “The Black Stallion” as a child. I will choose the Black Arabian Crossbred Stallion.

I think it will be farther into the future. I also think it is totally unnecessary until there might be a real colony on another planet or moon. Unless the stunt it will make someone a lot of money. Feeling cynical about this whole thing.

My relationship is very close with sleep. When I don’t get enough, my mood and how I am feeling suffers. So I have to respect it and get to bed on time as much as I can. I do love a good night’s sleep.

Mostly a “thanks” or even an email with some kind words. I have also received a few gift cards from management. It is a nice feeling to be appreciated. This really keeps me going.

Related Task: I would much prefer an alien that comes in peace, but can handle themselves when inevitably things get weird. And preferably advanced enough that they already figured out how to break the language barrier.

Alternative task: Not really into horses, so I’ll visit the local thrift store and donate clothes, shoes, and other various house items.

Alternative task: Humanity should be focusing on taking care of it’s own planet.

Yep, wipe and start again because goodness knows what you’ve done this time (I will take a quick look first in case it’s user error, which it usually is). And if you bring something in and it doesn’t work, I don’t have the time to support my actual devices, never mind your own so you’ll have to sort it yourself.

I think 8-10 times so far in my life… although I didn’t hit Roswell each time. Only maybe 4 on that one, and the latest was during Covid (was moving) so everything was shut down (all the way shut down, not just mask restrictions…). Not even one Alien T-shirt to be had. I think I still took a couple of pictures, but didn’t stay long like I wanted to.

My favourite aliens are the ones that are nothing like us at all (think Eldritch monstrosities), because that’s what I think aliens would be like.

2. Horse Day

Never been a big fan of horses. My favourite one would be one that is very happy and nowhere near me.

3. Space Exploration Day

I don’t think we’ll reach other planets in our lifetime. I don’t even think we’ll have a moon base in my lifetime (I’m a millennial). The money required from either governments or the private sector is so high, and I think no one would be prepared to fund it. Instead, I think humanity should be focusing on peace and climate change (depressing, I know).

4. Hammock Day

My bond with sleep is, erm, insomnia. I was quite impressed I feel asleep really easily the other night… until the carbon monoxide detector woke me up to tell me one of its batteries had started fizzing and did I want to deal with that?!

5. SysAdmin Day

I’m not even sure if people show appreciate for me in my job by my paycheck. But the position in my company that I appreciate a lot is our receptionist. She’s just generally amazing, and I’ve lost track of the times I’ve challenged her with a weird and random question (always prefacing it as such), and she always knows the answer. Who’s in charge of this thing? She knows. Where are the paperclips being stored? She knows. Why is the electricity out in this part of the bulding? She knows. And she’s an expert in persuading birds to go outside as well - they have a habit of flying in and getting stuck in a classroom, and she can retrieve them in minutes.

In other news, thank you for letting me know my best friend’s birthday is on a Friday this year.

Horse Day

I grew up fairly upper lower class/lower middle class and out in the country. From what I remember I believe we rescued a horse from an abusive home and we tried our best to give the horse at least a better home than where it came from. We all loved how majestic and beautiful the horse was and still to this day I’m jealous I was too young to ride it! UFO Day: I would like my Aliens to like Paul in the 2011 movie. Heaven help us if they are human and more powerful, perhaps looking to increase the size of their empire. That scenario never turns out bad…
Horse Day: I prefer two wheels and horse power.
Space Exploration Day: Break up NASA, (kind of like they did with Ma Bell) and spread the money around to those who can actually get us to space.
Hammock Day: I haven’t had one since the kids broke the one we had. So hard to have nice things.

I reckon in the next 25 years.
I often don’t sleep enough as I play DND late on Sun and Mon, so Tuesday I am often a zombie.
I get the occasional thanks, and the rare gift from people when I go above and beyond, but usually it’s pretty thankless.

I play most of my TTRPGs play-by-post (Pathfinder over at the Paizo site), but on Thursday nights I play 5e face to face, and I can relate. Friday morning I am always a little out of it. Good thing it is my short day.

I want to sleep more I just don’t get to bed at a good time and my commute means I get up early during the week. My only day to sleep in is Saturday and I usually don’t get to because the dog is already up and needs attention. I would like to nap but never seem to.

It’s just the paycheck. Companies reside on IT. If we turn off a specific server or there is a network problem, users can’t properly do their job. Everywhere I’ve been, IT is still only respected if something breaks. And if it takes too long to fix, we get in trouble.

a. If we find other alien life within our solar system or some other galaxy, I just hope they are somewhat like minded to humans. I want to be able to share ideas with them and have them share their ideas as well. It would be really fascinating to see if humans have been on another planet but how much different their existence has been compared to ours.

a. Favorite horse has to be the Budweiser Clydesdales. I have seem them up close before at their main facility in St. Louis and they are incredible.

a. I really do think this will happen within my life time. People like Elon Musk will make sure of that I think. I hope we don’t ruin the Earth so bad that we have to completely leave it behind though…

a. I really do have a hard time putting my phone down to sleep. Its a bad habit so sometimes I stay up kind of late. If I’m not on my phone either I’m reading a book until I eventually fall asleep while reading.

When we get them it feels extra special, but it also sucks when you see HR carting the baggies around to hand out, and they don’t end up dropping any off at IT.

Our HR do something similar (without the goodie bags), and everyone seems to get a public thank-you shout out except IT. They also make a special point of thanking the Site Team for working over the summer holidays (we’re a school) and the admin team for coming in on exams day, but we never get a mention despite working the same hours as the Site Team across the whole summer holidays.

I would hope that they are helpful aliens. Although I did like someone else’s statement about the wacky near human aliens, Mork, the Coneheads, Third Rock from the Sun, the community on The Neighbors that all go by the names of sports celebrities.

My favorite horse was Pat. She was an all white horse that belonged to my grandparents. She could count to 10, and was gentle enough to ride bareback. I spent many days in the saddle as a kid riding her around their 5 acres and pretending to be The Lone Ranger.

I think it will be in the far future, if ever, before someone if born on a distant planet, or even in space. Unless of course Jeff Bezos decides to try selling space maternity, because there will be someone willing to try it.

Probably because IT are the background people keeping the systems going so others can do their jobs. They aren’t noticed unless something breaks.

Even so, I put in a coworker once for recognition 2-3 times before he got it. I’m pretty sure they regretted it afterwards because he soon left for a better job.

My take on this sort of stuff is if there is a civilisation that can travel FtL and are visiting Earth, they are scientists. They are attempting to classify living organisms on other planets, like zoologists or something similar. I find it highly unlikely a civilisation would send an invading fleet all the way across the black for resources. It would likely chew up too many resources to do.

Horse Day

I had a mate who rode Arabian horses. They are very pretty, from photos. I have only ever had one encounter on the back of a horse and that beast ran direct at a fence, stopped suddenly and I went sailing off. I never proved the adage of getting right back on again. I just accepted that the equine breed was not for me.

Space Exploration Day

I would like to think that the first non-earthling would be born in my lifetime. But I am about halfway (on average) so it is more than likely that it will happen in the generation after mine.

Hammock Day

I looooove sleep. I generally get enough per day to keep my body happy, but if it were not for work I would be more than happy sleeping an extra few hours a day! I most certainly have taken time off to catch up on sleep. After all, I do not function well on no or little sleep.

SysAdmin Day

I have just gone out working for myself, contracting to various locations. In jobs previous to this I have always felt the love and so I am assuming that will not change. Just means I have to adult a little harder to make sure the money continues to come in.
