What is your IT Department using spreadsheets for that you wish that there was a better (and cost effective) solution for?

Maybe there is a “solution” but the cost is too high or it is too complex for mid to small sized businesses to adopt.

I wish they would stop using gigantic, horribly written macros and wonder why excel crashes all the time.

We blocked macros per spam filter, so no one can email any documents with embedded macros. It’s was crazy the first week, but everyone , noticed that most macros were just dragged along from years and years old templates that just get re-used. lol yay, no more macros.

Now, I had some coffee, OP, is your question what alternatives are there to spreadsheets? Or are you asking for alternatives to MS Office? Often, I don’t think there is an alternative for spreadsheats, but you have the choice if you use Google Sheets, or Open Office, or Libre Office, etc but I don’t think I could work completely without spreadsheet.
