Hi Everyone,

What are your thoughts on a device like Amazon Echo in the workplace. Do you use them? How do you handle users that want them installed? Do you find them to be a security risk?

A little bit of me. I work at a retirement community. We are a tri-level facility doing skilled care, personal care and independent living, so this is considered their home.

Thanks!

I’ve got no problem with them. Then again, we also don’t discuss anything confidential in the office anyway.

A device like that would be put on the “guest” wireless network, VLAN separation from the company network.

There are none currently in use but we are a business and i do not think you could get 2 people to agree on what to listen to. It is all headphone around here for those that listen to music at work.

It doesn’t support WPA2-Enterprise authentication, so it’s basically useless here.

If you can’t discuss confidential things in the office (at least in terms of business) where can you discuss them?

At least you’re not a doctor’s office.

Is it your residents or your staff wanting this sorry?

I only bring it up because of this post:

Don’t you have to abide by HIPPA regulations? Isn’t patient care discussed at your facility?

I’m almost sure that my workplace will try to incorporate them at some point in our day to day ops. We’ll see.

We really just use ours for music and such, I’d be interested to see what it’s used for at work. I’d say no only because Alexa perks up when she thinks she hears her name, even though you didn’t say her name!

Absolutely not.
