Hey Techies. As Im working for small company where we have tape drive which is used for backup.

I want to copy data from one tape catriage to another tape cartridge. How is that possible . we are using Symantec Backup Exe 11d .

Help me…

Not sure how to do that. but i qould be asking about why you don’t move to using a few external hard drives to backup your data.

The first solution that would come to my mind is restore the data to a random location, then back it up again to a different tape. Backup exec won’t do tape to tape that I know of.(that is using a single tape drive)

Also, why do you want to do this? maybe there is a better solution outside of the scope of your thinking.

That link should be what you want, it is copying the data from one device to another. You need 2 tape drives to do this though. You can’t really “restore” data to a tape because software won’t typically (plus it would be just plain silly) to access live data off a tape.
You can either make a copy of the tape, onto another tape, or you can restore it to a proper drive to use the data. I am really confused as to what you are trying to do here.

You can’t restore from one tape cartridge to another tape cartridge. You can restore from tape cartridge to disk and then issue another backup to another cartridge - but that wont’ be considered a duplicate.

The technote identified above by TBS9555 is accurate, that is the way to do a duplicate at the time the job is run.
