I brought cookies into the office today, put a note on it saying “Happy April Fools Day”. There’s nothing wrong with them, just want to see who is brave enough to try them. LOL.

Edit: The cookies were gone by noon.

I’m such a geek, so I always look for any new April 1st RFCs.
Note: Nothing yet this year, but plenty of past ones to reminisce about.

Then I check Google, but it seems they haven’t done much since the pandemic.

My dad was always a prankster, but made it a habit to go the extra mile for April Fool’s. When I was a kid, we had one of those hand sprayers at the kitchen sink, and he taped the handle in the open position so whoever happened to turn on the faucet would get sprayed. We finally learned and didn’t fall for it one year, and he completely forgot he’d done it and ended up spraying himself!

Back in the day, we would remove the “ball” from someone’s mouse and put it in their desk drawer.
Also, could edit their win.ini file and set
shell=freecell.exe
I suppose the win.ini trick might still work.

Sending out a memo on the last business day of March to the effect of:

“New corporate policy: All company calendars are to have April 1 removed from them as we will proceed straight to April 2nd to reduce distractions and miscommunications caused by April Fools’ Day.”

I was going to post that. I do that every year and it does work, or the mouse doesn’t appear to work LOL. I have a pad of 2x2 stickies ready for my first victim coming back from lunch today. I can’t wait.

A few years ago I pushed out the nCage Chrome extension to a few managers. It replaces the pictures in your browser with random images of Nicholas Cage. We had just started a big push on cyber security, so as I got calls from the managers first words were, “I swear I didn’t click on anything!” I would sit down at their computer and act very concerned and say, “This isn’t good at all. The first thing we need to do is figure out what day it is.” It was utter joy to watch them put it together in real time that I had pranked them. Each manager ended with, “Now do it to _____!”

I haven’t found anything as good as this. Right now I’ve pushed out an extension that makes it look like there’s a hair on their screen. Only my friend in HR has noticed it so far.

Putting a sign on the copier stating the copier company pushed an update to the copier with new features. The new feature is “voice command” printing where the person has to loudly say Print and the number of copies then say Go and the copier will copy. They are asked to speak loudly so the copier can pick up their voice.

One of my favorites is to tape fishing line to the back of everything on someone’s desk. Run the lines down the back of their desk. Push in their chair and tie the lines to the chair. When they pull the chair out to sit all their stuff goes sliding!

I used to play pranks growing up, mainly on my big sister but also on my parents but I kinda grew out of it. I haven’t done anything like that for a long time, it’s kinda just boring now.

Another joke I heard of but never tried as is harder and riskier and more convoluted is copy someone’s desktop to somewhere else, screenshot the desktop then delete the contents, then set the screenshot as the desktop background none of their icons will work now…

I stay in touch with my clients via a “FaxBlast” ‘mailing’ list…started out as faxes, changed over to ‘mostly’ emails now. So, every March 31 late I send around the latest information, having them read them on April 1. Some items in the past have been change the oil in your monitor, move your memory around so it wears evenly, lock up your Escape key so nothing can get away, vacuum the inside of the case but watch for any stray memory bits, etc etc. Clients always get a kick out of it.
