This will step you through resetting your windows XP password
You need:
A) Your PC
B) Your windows XP CD-Key
C) Your windows XP Installation CD
Step 1: Boot your PC from your bootable XP CD
When you first turn on the PC, chuck the CD in. It should ask prompt you with something along the lines of “press any key to boot from CD…”. Once you’re here, press any key
If you are not prompted, it is because your BIOS is set to skip booting from CD. Reset, and jump into your bios (usually F2 or delete or something) and set this option on
Step 2: Select Setup windows now
There is quite a bit of waiting between the previous step and now - the bootable CD will inspect and prepare your system for setting up windows
Step 3: Select repair
Do this by pressing R
Step 4: Open up the command prompt during the windows repair
Once the first step of the repair is finished, the computer will reboot, and continue on to it’s next phase
Once you see the progress bar read ‘Installing devices’, hold shift and press F10. This will force open a command prompt
Step 5: Open up the User control GUI and reset your password
key in NUSRMGR.CPL into the command prompt - this will open the User accounts control. from there, select your user (I’ll assume administrator) and click reset password. Make it soemthing you can remember this time
Once you’ve reset the password, close down the user accounts window and the command prompt. Windows will continue with it’s repair, during which you will be asked for your CD-Key
Once it’s finished, it will boot to the usual login screen where you can now login with your newly reset password
Enjoy!
