Noah Cyrus has teamed up with PETA for a new anti-SeaWorld campaign in which she’s shown trapped in a tank of water.

“Life’s No Beach in Captivity. Boycott SeaWorld,” the ad says.

In a behind-the-scenes video from the shoot, the singer — wearing a “SeaWorld Sucks” T-shirt — explains why she got involved with PETA to urge the marine amusement park to release its orcas.
“We want Sea World to do the right thing and release the orcas to a sanctuary,” she says. “That is something I’m very passionate about. I love animals so much. To think that any animal would be trapped makes me so sad. It’s like living in your bedroom for your entire life and never being able to go outside. What a lot of the public doesn’t know, and I’m sure my fans aren’t aware of: orcas have died living at Sea World, and that has not been from old age. You should always speak up. That’s what I like to teach my fans — to be real and speak up for things you’re passionate about.”
According to a release from PETA, 41 orcas have died “on SeaWorld’s watch.” The organization claims the orcas at SeaWorld are kept in small tanks and that some are given drugs to “manage their stress-induced aggressive behavior.”
“@NoahCyrus submerged herself in a tank of water to show the world how animals suffer at #SeaWorld,” PETA wrote on Twitter. “Orcas and other animals are forced to live in tiny spaces that are NOTHING like their natural habitats—just so humans can gawk at them. Never buy tickets to marine parks that keep animals captive! #BoycottSeaWorld.”
