CHICAGO -- Matthew Stafford's assault on the record books continues.
The Detroit Lions quarterback broke Dan Marino's record for most passing yards in a player's first 100 games. He entered Sunday's game against the Bears -- his 97th -- needing 104 yards to surpass Marino's mark of 27,064.
Stafford needed a little longer to get there than anticipated, after completing just 11 of 20 passes for 90 yards during a disastrous first half, but got there on a scoring drive to open the third quarter. Detroit trailed 7-6.
At 28 years old, Stafford already holds every major franchise passing record, including all-time yards, and has a couple notable NFL marks as well, including fastest quarterback ever to 20,000 yards.
Stafford is off to a fast start this season. He entered today's game ranking third in passing yards per game (328) and sixth in QB rating (105.0). He has seven touchdowns and three interceptions.
And he's helped turn Marvin Jones (406 yards coming into today) into the league's No. 1 receiver heading into Week 4.
Not bad for a guy who lost the best receiver in franchise history during the offseason.
