OnePlus Pad 3 launches with Snapdragon 8 Elite, 13.2-inch display, still no biometrics for $699

OnePlus has just launched its new OnePlus Pad 3 with a new chipset, bigger display, and a higher price.

The OnePlus Pad series has, thus far, delivered some of the best Android tablets for their price. With its new OnePlus Pad 3, though, OnePlus is supersizing all of it.

This new tablet includes a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset under the hood paired with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. That’s powered by the latest version of OxygenOS with Android 15, as well as a 12,140 mAh battery that supports 80W charging. Truly, it’s a powerhouse on the spec sheet.

The display is a 13.2-inch LCD panel at 3392×2400. The panel can hit 600 nits of brightness generally, with a high-brightness mode peaking at 900 nits, while the refresh rate is a smooth 144Hz. There are 8 speakers in total, OnePlus says, while any wired audio output is via the USB-C port. That’s in part because the OnePlus Pad 3 is very thin at just 5.97mm.

Rounding out the hardware, there’s a 13MP front-facing camera and an 8MP rear-facing camera. The one glaring omission on the spec sheet is any form of secure biometrics. There’s a camera-based face unlock, but you won’t be able to use that with any remotely secure apps, like password managers. That’s a crying shame on this $700 tablet.

Meanwhile, on the software side of things, OnePlus is committing to 6 years of security updates as well as three major OS updates through Android 18.

The software is, of course, packed with AI features while also supporting OnePlus’ excellent Open Canvas multitasking system. OnePlus is upgrading that system with suggestions for app groups, such as if you’re “flicking between the group chat and your maps app” while planning an event with friends.

There’s an upgraded keyboard case this time around – not included with the tablet – which can be adjusted between 110-165 degrees and supports NFC for file transfer between your phone and tablet. The OnePlus Stylo 2 remains around for another year on this updated tablet. There’s a Folio case also available.
