DJI Dock 3, Matrice 4D drones just got smarter with new firmware update

DJI has rolled out a major firmware update for its flagship drone-in-a-box solution Dock 3 and Matrice 4D enterprise drones, packing in powerful new features that elevate autonomous missions and situational awareness to a new level. The update — covering everything from the aircraft and dock firmware to DJI Pilot 2 and FlightHub 2 compatibility — offers smarter patrols, advanced infrared recognition, improved obstacle detection, and new AI-powered route automation.

Smarter patrol routes and obstacle awareness

One of the most noteworthy upgrades in the latest firmware is the introduction of Patrol Route support when Dock 3 is used with DJI FlightHub 2. This feature allows automatic “Smart Capture” and proactive alerts during route missions — ideal for repeat security or surveillance tasks. The system also now supports intelligent infrared recognition and obstacle-sensing alerts along flight paths. If an obstacle is repeatedly detected in the same location during recurring missions, the drone will suspend subsequent flights for safety, reducing human oversight and avoiding costly accidents.

Obstacle sensing performance in the forward and upward directions has also been optimized, boosting confidence during complex missions in urban or cluttered environments.

Faster, more informative flight tasks

Flight route tasks now support speeds up to 21 m/s, with a capped speed of 15 m/s when the obstacle-sensing module is active. Text-to-speech and speaker broadcast functions can now be integrated into waypoint actions, allowing drones to issue real-time verbal alerts or instructions in the field.

In addition, DJI has fine-tuned the medium tele camera’s 3x zoom to reflect a 70 mm focal length, providing a more accurate framing experience during inspections.

Pilot 2 app and AR enhancements

For DJI Pilot 2 users, the new firmware adds an augmented reality feature called AR Street, displaying real-world streets directly in the camera view for improved situational awareness during low-altitude flights.

Smart Capture video footage now allows playback with captured subjects highlighted, making post-mission reviews more efficient. Operators can also manually disable the infrared sensing system if needed, giving more control in dynamic environments.

Matrice 4D drone becomes a relay powerhouse

The update expands airborne relay support. Your Matrice 4D drone can now serve as a relay aircraft for the Matrice 4 series, enabling extended-range missions or signal relays in communication-challenged environments. To activate this, both aircraft must be on the latest firmware.

Compatibility and anti-rollback reminder

This firmware package — Dock v14.01.00.03, aircraft v14.01.00.03, and remote controller v01.64.05.09, among others — includes anti-rollback protection. That means once updated, older firmware cannot be reinstalled. DJI strongly advises users to update the dock, aircraft, and controller together to maintain compatibility.

Lastly, DJI added new features to help operators meet evolving local regulatory requirements, although specifics vary by region.
