Narratives, leadership and organization are key to understanding the Niger Delta conflict. The Ogoni humanized the enemy through an organized and disciplined leadership style. The Ijaw present a fluid and fractured set of leaders comprising intellectual and radical. Context specific battles were constructed and framed for particular communities. The struggles are not reflective of the Niger Delta as one.
