The President's Own
Established by an Act of Congress in 1798, the United States Marine Corps Band is America's oldest professional musical organization. It has served the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps since Thomas Jefferson's inauguration in 1801. In fact, it was Jefferson himself that named the band "The President's Own."
"The President's Own" has been a backdrop to the events that shaped our national heritage over the last two centuries. Today, "The President's Own" performs at South Lawn arrival ceremonies, State Dinners, and receptions. Marine Band musicians appear at the White House about 300 times each year. Additionally, the band participates in more than 500 public and official performances annually, including concerts and ceremonies throughout the Washington, DC, metropolitan area.
