Survival on a 10,000-foot, snow-covered peak at sub-zero temperatures takes intense physical and tactical training. Marines get that training at the Marine Corps Mountain Training Center (MCMWTC), 6,762 feet up in the Toiyabe National Forest. Here, temperatures can reach as low as 20 degrees, and snow accumulation can reach depths of up to eight feet.

Established in 1951 to provide mountain and cold weather training to replacement personnel bound for Korea, the training camp remains one of the Corps' most remote and isolated posts.
