Rafael Cox was selected to Real Salt Lake in the middle of the 4th Round of the MLS SuperDraft Thursday afternoon. The Attacking-Midfielder spent part of 2007 and all of the 2008 PDL Season with the Tacoma Tide. Cox helped lead the team to the Western Conference Finals in 2008. More information on his selection will follow here on TacomaFC.com. Cox continues the Tide tradition of a successful jump to the MLS as he becomes the 2nd Tacoma Tide player to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft in the last 2 years. In 2008, it was Ciaran O’Brien, picked with the 5th selection to the Colorado Rapids.
After the draft had run its course, Raf had this to say:
"I couldn't be happier getting drafted to Salt Lake City. They have a great program, and I can't wait to contribute to a strong franchise."
Cox watched the 2nd through 4th round of the MLS SuperDraft online. In response to the long wait to read his name, he said:
"I was a little worried as the draft went on but it all worked out in the long run."
As to what's next for the sometimes singularly named, RAFAEL:
"I leave in 2 weeks. Then camp starts and from there I work to get on the field. There's a brand new stadium, and they made it to the Western Conference Finals, so I'm excited."
