By filling out and submitting this form, you declare and support the following:

Ensuring future innovation related to MySQL
and safeguarding MySQL as a major competitive force

I, the Undersigned, use MySQL professionally and believe that Oracle, if it acquired Sun's MySQL, would create a fundamental conflict of interests between MySQL (and its different editions and storage engines) on the one hand and Oracle's high-priced products on the other hand.

Promises made by Oracle concerning its future conduct of business can at best have a transitional effect (if any) but cannot ensure true innovation related to MySQL and safeguard MySQL as a major competitive force. Therefore, if Oracle acquires Sun, there must be a structural solution in place that enables one or more companies other than Oracle to provide and successfully commercialize substantial MySQL-related innovation and to compete effectively with all vendors including Oracle.

In light of the fundamental importance of databases to the knowledge-based economy, I hereby ask competition authorities around the world to block Oracle's acquisition of Sun unless one of the structural solutions selected by me below is put in place as a legally binding requirement:

MySQL must be divested to a suitable third party that can continue to develop it under the GPL.

Oracle must commit to a linking exception for applications that use MySQL with the client libraries (for all programming languages), for plugins and libmysqld. MySQL itself remains licensed under the GPL.

Oracle must release all past and future versions of MySQL (until December 2012) under the Apache Software License 2.0 or similar permissive license so that developers of applications and derived versions (forks) have flexibility concerning the code.

DATA PRIVACY STATEMENT

Your data may only be given to competition authorities, to other governmental agencies, to parliaments and to journalists working for important, reputable news agencies. It will not be given to any other company or organization of any type than the ones previously specified.

We will have to send you an email to verify your email address. That verification email will contain a confirmation link as well as a cancellation link in case you do not wish to confirm this submission.

If we send you information concerning the campaign, you will always have an unsubscribe link available to click on, and in that case you will not receive any further emails from us.

For environmental concerns we may elect to do some or all deliveries in an electronic format. Regulators, parliaments and important, reputable news agencies would receive your data with an explicit request for not using the data in any way unrelated to the case. News agencies will have to sign the acceptance of that request and will not be permitted to quote any of the names or other uniquely or narrowly identifying data from the petition unless they receive express written (including email) permission from a signatory to be named in a report.

A competition authority working on the case will usually have to take the petition to the Oracle/Sun case file. There are special rules for access to such a case file. For an example, in the EU Oracle's lawyers would certainly have the right to look at it. That is necessary in order for the petition to have a really strong effect.
