70 metro stations will be built in Baku until 2040 as part of the "plan for the future development of the Baku Metro for 20 years" until 2040 in Baku. In particular, the new Baku subway station will be built next to the palace of the Heydar Aliyev, the sports complex named after Heydar Aliyev and other public facilities.
Metro Chief Tagi Akhmadov said the following on opening a perspective of new metro stations during an event on Day of Baku underground metropolitan on November 3:
"We must create conditions for residents of the capital city and guests to be able to go to public facilities by subway. Therefore, the "Plan for the future development of the Baku Metro" provides for the construction of new metro stations near the popular public facilities, densely populated residential neighborhoods. Thus, the issue of busy roads in the center and in other parts of the city of Baku will be settled.
