Season 9 is history, and I, for one, am glad to see Dieter VonSteigerwalt go. I'm not writing this blog to bury
Dieter at all - fact is, when he gave me the chance to put together the card for
Easton's "Scornucopia," I was shocked. I really wanted to write Dieter off as a complete jerk -
a BDK tool, but every once and again, he'd surprise me.
I'm not stating this as fact - God knows I don't need a lawyer ringing me up after reading this - but the talk around
the water cooler was that a few palms were greased last November, and around that same time - whattayaknow -
ol' Lenny's out of his job and Deiter is the new Director of Fun. And if there's any truth to that...I have to believe
no one at the time could have guessed the miscarriages of justice that would be perpetrated while Dieter held that job.
Was he aloof, arrogant and abrasive? Absolutely. Did he abuse the power he was given by the Board? Absolutely. And
guess what? That came around to bite him on the rear-end after a full season of being complicit in the Bruderschaft's
invasion.
No one should be surprised that, as certain bureaucrats became inundated with complaints, that a neutral party
was hired to assess the kind of job Dieter was really doing. You do your job poorly enough, long enough,
someone is bound to take notice. That's no surprise either.
What does surprise me is - after all is said and done, that the Board did not see fit to reinstate me as Director
of Fun.
I'm not trying to say that tearing tickets and moderating the message forum is beneath me, but I served in a
position of heavy responsibility for a long time and I did so to the best of my abilities. The same can't be
said of Dieter. And what qualifications, exactly, does Wink Vavasseur bring to the table?
I better shut up now. There's a big meeting of the top brass next week, and I'm probably
going to get chewed out as it is.
