38 Engineer Regiment

38 Engineer Regiment are based in Maserene Barracks, Antrim, Northern Ireland.
The Regiment has seen many sub units under its command and it presently comprises of 32 Headquarters and Support Squadron, 11 Field Squadron, 25 Field Squadron, 15 Field Support Squadron and 38 Engineer Regiment LAD (Light Aid Detachment), Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers. The Regiment currently supports 19 Light Brigade who are part 3 (UK) Division.
A Brief History
38 Engineer Regiment is able to trace its roots back to 1936, originating as 38th (The King's Regiment) Anti Aircraft Battalion Royal Engineers (Territorial Army). Its formation as a regular Regiment was in Osnabruck, Germany in 1951 as 38 Corps Engineer Regiment, comprising of 61, 62 and 63 Field Squadrons.
1953 saw 65 Corps Field Park Squadron join the Regiment, ensuring the capability in supporting 11 Engineer Group.
38 Engineer Regiment is able to boast a long and distinguished history with the City of Ripon, North Yorkshire, first coming to Deverall Barracks in January 1959 on its return from Christmas Island.
On the 27 July 1999 The Corps of Royal Engineers celebrated its 50th Anniversary of the granting of the Freedom of the City of Ripon. Ripon was the first city to bestow the right of Freedom on the Corps of Royal Engineers. Many cities have since followed suit and granted the right of the Freedom on their resident Regiment.
