'Fast Five' race logo
Universal is hitting the racetrack to promote the homevid launch of "Fast Five," locking down a deal to rename the Chicagoland Speedway's "Camping World Truck Series" as the "Fast Five 225." Deal marks the first time NASCAR has allowed a film to take over one of its races as a title sponsor.
Event takes place Sept. 16, and serves as the first race in the pursuit of the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
Fast Five" stars Tyrese Gibson and Jordana Brewster will serve as grand marshals. Gibson will also sing the national anthem.
Given the "Fast" franchise's racing theme, a pair-up with NASCAR made sense for Universal Studios Home Entertainment. But the division will also be able to use the event to reach out to Hispanic auds, since the "Fast Five 225" event coincides with Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins Sept. 16.
The Chicagoland Speedway will target Hispanic communities with advertising and other promos leading up to the "Fast Five 225."
Universal Studios Home Entertainment rolls out the pic on Blu-ray and DVD on Oct. 4.
The Chicagoland Speedway is based located in Joliet, Illinois, and hosts the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, the NASCAR Nationwide Series and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
