Zum Ende eines Jahres küren einige japanische Wrestling Ligen ihre Besten des abgelaufenen Jahres. Die Zeitschriften Tokyo Sports und Nikkan Sports machen dies für die gesamte Puroresu-Szene. Die seit 1974 jährlich von Journalisten vergebenen Preise des Tokyo Sports Magazins gelten als die wichtigsten Auszeichnung der japanischen Wrestling Welt. Abgestimmt werden die Auszeichnung von 27 Personen, die in mehreren Wahlgängen solange abstimmen, bis eine Person, ein Team oder ein Match eine Mehrheit von mindestens 14 Stimmen auf sich vereinigt. Nikkan Sports wählte bei seinen 1996 erstmals vergebenen Auszeichnungen einen anderen Weg und lässt seine Leser abstimmen. Dabei gibt es separate Kategorien für die Männer und Frauen (und für Shootfightung und Boxing).
