Q: I'm 15 and dating a 18 year old. I live in Ohio he lives in Georgia. Is that illegal?

1 Answer | Asked in Other for Ohio on
Answered on Oct 19, 2016

The law doesn't care who you date. Sex stuff would be illegal. N.B., DO NOT under any circumstances send him a naked pic. You are 15. Any sexually explicit image or video of you is highly illegal child pornography. It is illegal to make it, solicit it, or distribute it, and an extremely serious offense if it crosses state lines.

Q: Since I'm 16 and boyfriend 19 do i need my parents permission to date him?

1 Answer | Asked in Other for Ohio on
Answered on Jun 22, 2016

Sort of. Legally you can date whomever you please, but you must also obey reasonable rules set by your parents. Not dating adult men is a reasonable rule. So, while it is not criminal to date him without your parent's permission, your parents do have the legal right to enforce their rules by punishing you. Also, chronic disobedience of one's parents can eventually legal to being charged with delinquency. So, if you persist and they are unable to control you, that could become a criminal matter.

Q: How long do you have to file dv charges against an abusive bf..?

1 Answer | Asked in Other for Ohio on
Answered on Jun 21, 2016

Depending upon whether the charge would be a misdemeanor (physical harm, no priors) or a felony (serious physical harm or prior DV conviction or pregnant at the time of the offense) either 2 or 6 years. But why wait around? Note that evidence disappears, memories get fuzzy, and police investigate less if the charge is being based on something that happened a long time ago.

Q: If a mechanic fixes my car after I tell him I don't have the money to pay for it and then leave with it can they file

1 Answer | Asked in Other for Ohio on
Answered on Jun 12, 2016

Did you tell them to fix it or not? I suspect their side of the story will be quite different. To answer your question, no they can't file charges. They can report a suspected crime to the police, who will investigate and work with a prosecutor to determine whether or not to file charges.

Q: What action can I take to stop ex from playing drinking games and drinking while driving kids on boat?

1 Answer | Asked in Other for Ohio on
Answered on Jun 9, 2016

If you all have a shared parenting agreement, or the equivalent in another state, you could bring the matter to the courts attention. It is illegal to drink and operate a boat. Engaging in illegal behavior while one has responsibility for the children is something which will upset a judge.

Q: Is it illegal to call and ask about anothers banking account information

1 Answer | Asked in Other for Ohio on
Answered on Mar 30, 2016

A little more context is needed. It is foolish and you will just get rejected if you simply call up the bank and ask for someone else's information. If you use personal identifying information of another individual such as the last four digits of his or her social, name, and address, to attempt to obtain his or banking information, that would be illegal.

Q: how long does it takes before points come off your license, I have two two point tickets more than two yrs old

1 Answer | Asked in Other for Ohio on
Answered on Mar 30, 2016

You will get a twelve point suspension if you accumulate 12 points within a two year period. Note that the clock starts on the date of the first conviction within the two year period, not the date of the offense. So, for example, if you had this DUI situation in November, but were not convicted of it until March and got this latest ticket in February of this year, you would get a twelve point suspension letter. http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/4510.037

Q: If got dv and they say take felony four tens days will have court and get out will you get out of jail

1 Answer | Asked in Other for Ohio on
Answered on Mar 22, 2016

There is no way to predict what a judge will do at sentencing with any accuracy without a lot more information. It's possible such a deal has been worked out, but it's also possible the judge will give him considerable time. Upon conviction the pre-trial protection order will terminate, but judges can and often do put another order in place during the probationary period.
