Biography
Training: Hard work every day
When and why did you start training for fighting? I was always a fighter, from my hockey days when I was doing boxing training to today. I got hooked on MMA when I met my agent Stephane Patry; he gave me my first opportunity, and my first MMA fight was actually in the same building I’m making my UFC debut in, the Bell Centre, so I’m very excited. I started training for MMA back in 2006 and I never stopped.
What ranks and titles have you held? Ringside MMA (local promotion) LHW champion. I was also ranked amongst the top 5 prospects in Canada outside of the UFC.
Do you have any heroes? I would definitely say Mike Tyson
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It means everything. It’s a dream come true.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I’m a graduate from the Fireman Academy.
What was your job before you started fighting? I was a professional hockey player. But now on top of being a fighter, I’m also a full-time fireman and I have a firewood company.
Favorite grappling technique: Kimura
Favorite Striking technique: I really like Muay Thai but I would say my favorite strike is my overhand.
• Pro since 2007
• Nine wins by KO, one by submission (Ankle lock)
• Has won 10 of his last 11, with victories over UFC vets Wes Sims, Marvin Eastman and Houston Alexander
• Lone pre-UFC loss was in 2007 against UFC vet Icho Larenas (TKO by 3)
• Nine first round finishes
